Chapter 122: She is a potential Heir to the Fae Throne.
Upon returning to the castle, they descended into the stench-ridden dungeon cell. The air was thick with rot, and Elaika’s stomach turned violently, she could no longer resist. Vomit spilled from her lips as a searing burn twisted through her bowels. Terror slithered down her spine, cold and merciless. She was going to die. She should have revealed this to her King before he would fall for this princess girl, so they would have cut her head instantly. She was wretched and looked so weak now. How spiteful!
In the darkness of the cell, "Speak. I command you, as your Alpha King!" Kai’s voice thundered, his aura surging like a storm through the confined space. His heart and mind were racing insanely. Luther was right across his sight and approached Ren, but he didn’t see it. It was fucking weakness that let his brother come this close to his wife. He was driving mad. What if he kidnapped and claimed her? What the whole heck would he do then? Fuck him!
Shadow’s whip wrapped around Elaika like a noose. She had already submitted to him once; disobeying now would feel like drowning. But he didn’t care whether she answered or choked on her silence. Let her die. After what she’d done, it would be mercy.
’Let me kill her. We know enough already!’ Shadow roared, making the girl jolt. He was even scarier in the dark when she was enclosed in such a hellish cell. It smelled horrible. Like spoiled meat and infected wounds.
Kai was dying with self-reproach. The shame clawed at him. In his own house, under his protection, one of his wolves, his royal wolves, had tried to murder his wife. The disgrace burned hotter than rage. He couldn’t even bring himself to meet Reneira’s eyes. Let alone planning to make love with her. He had prepared a romantic venue for them alone so he could eventually take her tonight before leaving Thegara. But, again he was mourning more losses.
And for the Mountain Wolf clan, they would lose their credits among the rest of the clans. They would mock them, and never trust them again. They would sever marriage bonds with she-wolves of that clan as a sign of distrust.
"I saw Luther in the market before the Luna introduction ceremony," Elaika began, her voice thin and submissively steady. "Somehow, he already knew about my affairs with you. He came to me directly with a Lord vampire... We met during the night and he said I should help him reclaim his rightful bride. No one can understand how happy I was to ascertain that humans are not trustworthy."
Shadow’s whip was tormenting her soul. No wonder why everyone feared Shadow, even Luther. She paused, unflinching. No remorse flickered in her eyes, only cold resolve. War always demanded sacrifices. And what were a few lives, compared to the thousands she believed she was saving? She didn’t feel regret. Not at all.
"Did he ask you to kill her, or was that your own choice?" Agara raised a question, his voice cut like a blade.
"My choice," she answered without hesitation. "I never let him touch Thegara. There was no telling if he’d keep his word, even if I helped him. He gave me a drop of his blood, just a drop, and planned to send a vampire to assist. But before he could, you brought one of your own. A monster that I didn’t want to exist in Thegara. I used his blood to command it... to kill her. And he would follow his lovely bride to his father’s hell and leave our world alone."
Agara shook his head, fury simmering beneath the surface. Foolish girl. That blood was priceless. With even a trace of it, they could’ve bent the Giant Lord Vampire to their will and changed the course of everything. And she had squandered it on a reckless, failed assassination.
"Do you have more of his blood?" Kai pressed, his voice taut with urgency.
