The Devil's Son and His Fated Bride

Chapter 25: A white crow

Close to the castle’s secret gateway, Kai slowed Viva. This little human was distressed, and it could unleash the storm inside her at any moment. But he couldn’t deny that King Benkin had known something about his elder niece and had sent her here, forging an alliance with him. There was no rush to find out what was on his mind, as they would soon reunite on the battlefield. Kai couldn’t wait to see his face when he realized his wife could tame dragons and griffins simultaneously, meaning she possessed the power of fire and water at the same time—two strong, essential elements of life.

"Speak to me. I can already hear your chaotic, disarranged thoughts."

Ren snapped out of her daze to find him bent close to her ear, his warm breath brushing against her skin, tickling her.

"He didn’t say that he would teach me how to control my power, let alone use it."

"Hmm, I understand your worries. But he didn’t leave because he didn’t want to teach you. He had to check the library in Rezgaith, the capital of the Fae realm. You are an exception, and teaching you the wrong way might hurt you. He had to educate himself first. I’m certain he will come back soon."

Ren clenched her skirt, pursing her lips. "Is my magic good or bad? He didn’t say a word."

Kai let out a frustrated sigh, stopped Viva near a spring, and dismounted. Stretching his arms, he grabbed her by the waist and put her down.

"Come on, let’s sit there until you calm down." He led her to a flat stone, and she sat while he leaned against a tree trunk in front of her, folding his arms against his chest, looking at the moon’s reflection in the spring’s puddle of clean water. Ren brushed her delicate fingers on the surface and smiled as the moon’s reflection rippled.

"Thank you for the emotional support. It feels good." She spoke after a long silence.

Kai chuckled. "What is that?"

Ren arched a brow at him. "You don’t know what emotional support is?"
