Ranaway From Wedding, Fell into Tycoon's Love Trap

Chapter 1556: Of Course I Don’t Care

Thomas Fisher’s reasoning was tactful, but his attitude in refusing was firm. Charlotte Shaw and Isla Lane felt that keenly, yet the mother and daughter had no intention of giving up.

"Thomas is right. Alice Turner can’t take care of Benjamin Shaw on her own, and besides, she’s a girl—it’s not convenient for her to do everything herself. With Thomas here, he can help her." Before the two women could start in again, Alexander Shaw simply pushed them both out of the ward, and the moment they were out, he shut the door.

"Why are you pushing us?"

Being shoved out the door by Alexander, Isla and Charlotte were very displeased. But Charlotte, as the younger generation, only dared to be angry without saying anything; Isla, as his wife, had far fewer scruples.

Isla had barely finished speaking when Alexander glared at her. "Will you just calm down for once? Benjamin is seriously injured—can you, as his mother, put his health first for a change?"

"And you." He didn’t spare his troublemaking daughter either. "You’d better behave yourself too. If you can’t focus on taking care of Benjamin, then don’t bother coming in the future."

Charlotte was so furious she wanted to storm off right then, but considering the serious consequences of doing that, she swallowed her unwillingness and forced down the impulse to leave.

"Aren’t Charlotte and I both thinking of Benjamin? Don’t you want Alice and Benjamin to remarry?" Isla shot back without hesitation.

Just as Isla said, Alexander did indeed very much hope Benjamin and Alice would remarry. But he wasn’t ruled by emotion; he was extremely rational.

"Alice is already Thomas’s fiancée. Don’t bring up Benjamin and Alice remarrying again." From the bottom of his heart, he wanted his son to be happy, but Benjamin wouldn’t be happy with Alice.

His son might love Alice, but Alice didn’t love his son. How could two people like that be happy together? How could they possibly be joyful?

"What about fiancée? Alice is still Benjamin’s ex‑wife." Isla was nowhere near as rational as Alexander. As Benjamin’s mother, she was single‑mindedly determined to see her son and Alice remarry.

Alexander’s expression darkened as he shot Isla a look, his tone growing even harsher. "Exactly. Alice is Benjamin’s ex‑wife—and that’s never going to change in this lifetime."

He hadn’t interacted all that much with that girl Alice, but he prided himself on reading people accurately. That girl was someone with strong opinions and a mind of her own.

She was truly a good girl—it was just that his son didn’t have the blessing, and had let such a good girl slip through his fingers.

"How is it ’never going to change’? Benjamin risked his life to save Alice—how could Alice not be moved?" In Isla’s view, this incident was the perfect opportunity. She was determined to seize it and push Benjamin and Alice into a successful remarriage.

Faced with a wife so stubbornly obsessed, Alexander was at a loss for words. He felt that no matter what he said, she wouldn’t listen.

"Fine, go stir things up. When you’ve made a complete mess of it, let’s see what you do then." He jabbed a finger at her irritably, then quickened his pace and stepped into the elevator.

He didn’t want to waste any more words or energy on her; better to save his strength for something meaningful.

"Like hell I’m ’fine’ with it."

Isla huffed out her retort as she headed into the elevator.

Charlotte hadn’t said a word the whole time, just kept her arm linked with her mom’s. With her actions, she made it clear to her dad, Alexander, that she was firmly on her mother’s side.
