Chapter 1488: Don’t Get Your Hopes Up About This
From what mom said, Benjamin Shaw confirmed a fact: his good friend’s mom didn’t tell the truth like his own did and even told some lies.
"Don’t get your hopes up too much about this, I..."
"What do you mean by ’I’? I find you’re becoming so useless now. You haven’t even gone to see Alice yet, and you’re already like a wilting flower."
Benjamin’s slow and steady attitude made Isla Lane both angry and anxious. Since she couldn’t reach him, if she could, her palm would have definitely landed on him.
His sister called him cowardly, and his mom said he was useless.
Is he cowardly? Is he useless?
Benjamin Shaw began to doubt himself, started to re-evaluate himself.
Thinking about what he’s done these days, he felt that his sister and mom were right. He really was a coward and useless.
He didn’t even fight for himself; he just willingly gave up.
This isn’t him. He shouldn’t be this kind of person.
"I understand. I will try hard to fight for it; don’t worry." Benjamin decided to give it his all tonight when he meets Alice Turner.
He doesn’t want to give up quietly; even if it "ends," he wants it to end spectacularly.
Hearing Benjamin say this, Isla Lane’s anxiety eased a lot. Just as she was about to remind and encourage her son on the other end, she suddenly heard a crisp notification sound.
An incoming call was alerting her. She moved the phone from her ear to in front of her, taking a look.
"I won’t say much to you. Just remember what you said today. I’ll hang up now." Isla Lane didn’t wait for Benjamin’s response and hung up after speaking.
After hanging up this call, she immediately answered another call.
"You..."
"Mom!"
The call was from Charlotte Shaw. Isla Lane was interrupted by her calling out "mom" just after she began speaking.
Because of the frustration she faced from Benjamin earlier, Charlotte was full of grievance. Because of this grievance, her voice and tone seemed unusual.
Although she couldn’t see her over the phone, Isla Lane, as Charlotte’s biological mother, could undoubtedly sense her daughter’s unusualness.
"Why does your voice sound strange? Did you have a fight with Gideon?" Not knowing what happened, Isla Lane assumed Charlotte had argued with her husband Gideon.
"I did have a fight, but not with my husband; it was with your dear son." Thinking about how Benjamin was so ungrateful earlier, Charlotte felt extremely stifled, with a burst of anger welling up inside her.
Hearing this, a big question mark popped into Isla Lane’s mind, "You argued with Benjamin? Why did you two fight? Did you see Benjamin today?"
The siblings often argued when they were kids, but stopped doing so as they grew older.
Isla Lane felt not only confused but also greatly surprised.
"Yes, I fought with your ungrateful son. He was simply detestable." Charlotte didn’t care if her mom on the other end would be angry and bluntly called Benjamin detestable and ungrateful.
One can say and scold their child as they wish, but others cannot, even if it’s their daughter.
"How is your brother ungrateful? Why is he detestable? How can you talk about your brother like that?" Isla Lane stood up to defend her son.
