Transmigrated: The Lycan King's Pet

Chapter 65 Spying Gone Wrong

A deep, guttural growl rolled through the night air. My body went stiff at the thought of getting caught.

I draw back further into the shadows, pressing my back flat against the wall. A werewolf was patrolling nearby, its blue eyes scanning through the darkness. It moved through the open path, its black fur with brown patches bristling under the glow of the torches. For a moment, I was sure it would sniff me out.

It paused, its snout twitched, sniffing the air, then shook its head and padded away into the darkness.

I didn’t move, and I didn’t dare to breathe until it disappeared from view. The cloak Caroline gave me—it worked. My brows furrowed, how didn’t it sniff me out?

’That was close.’

Once I was sure the danger had passed, I moved again, careful with each step. My feet barely made a sound against the cold stone and damp soil. Every breath I took felt like a gamble. If they caught me now, I wouldn’t even make it back to my cell. They might even rip me into shreds before they realize who I am.

I moved through the garden’s outer edge, using the trees as cover. I hid between hedges and old stone pillars until I came across a narrow path that led toward the darker corners of the territory—places rarely patrolled.

The air grew colder the farther I walked, and the thick canopy above blocked out most of the light from the half moon.

That was when I heard hushed voices.

I slowed my pace, my chest tightened with fear of the unknown. One voice was unmistakable.

"...you assured me the locket would be handled quietly," Alpha Allison’s voice rang low and cold, her words sharp as a blade.
