Chapter 26 Butterflies
"Why do you look sad?" I couldn’t help but ask.
"Because the sweets were her younger sister’s favourite, and ever since her death, Lydia has always had these with her. So it meant a lot for her to give us her sweets. It shows that she really saw us as sisters."
Our steps slowed. I never knew the sweets were that important to her. It made me question my stance. I had been focused on getting my own followers, but I just realised that I didn’t want to play with their emotions. They have shown me nothing but love and kindness. At least I should reciprocate their acts by being genuine with them.
’Okay, they are not my followers, but I’ll get my followers later on,’ I thought as we made our way out of the castle into an open field of flowers.
"This is my favourite place to be. It is very peaceful, and for some reason, no one seems to come here," she spread her arms wide open, beaming happily as she inhaled deeply.
The field was beautiful, with a mix of red, yellow, and lilac flowers, and it had this feeling of serenity to it.
I walked through the field, brushing my hand over the flowers. I inhaled the sweet smell of the flowers; it had a strange calming effect on my heavy heart. Was it the flowers, or was it because I knew that I had someone?
I turned to look for Caroline, as it had been a while since I last heard anything from her. A chuckle left my mouth when I saw that she was chasing after a butterfly.
I smiled before deciding to join her. I crawled on the ground of the field. As I made my way to her, my head was inches away from bumping into hers. We stared wide-eyed at the yellow butterfly that had stripes of black and brown.
