Chapter 114: The Woman She Once Admired
When Lethia was a child, her father took her to Ashenhold to meet her uncle, and she admired Lana deeply. Her frail, sickly body felt a sting of envy watching Lana, who was always healthy, cheerful, lively, and shining bright in everything she did.
But the woman standing before her now was far from the Lana she once admired.
Her purple eyes looked tired and dull. Her cheekbones jutted sharply, and the dark grey shadows under her eyes screamed malnutrition.
From the way her blonde hair was styled into an elegant bun, Lethia could see dry skin on her neck.
Lana wore a loose A-line dress that made it hard for Lethia to tell if she was pregnant or not.
But wasn’t that proof she was hiding a baby bump? After all, Lethia had never seen Lana wear something like that before.
"Why do you look so pathetic? Is it hard to role-play as Luna? The last I heard, Varrel still hasn’t crowned a Luna," Lethia asked with a biting tone.
Lana smiled bitterly. "Why? Are you happy to see me like this?"
Lethia couldn’t understand why Lana seemed so self-pitying. A pang of worry struck her.
She glanced toward the table where Chasey sat, trying to eavesdrop on their conversation. They decided to sit at separate tables when Lana asked Lethia for a private word.
"I wasn’t happy to see you in the first place. So, what do you want to talk about? I’m busy."
