Betrayed by Blood, Claimed by the Alpha

Chapter 145

Betrayed by Blood~

Cain’s room was dim, the moonlight buttered into the room, the curtains trembled as the air filtered through it. Avery lay on his bed, her legs tucked beneath her. She had his shirt on, the cloth hung loosely around her frame, swallowing her in his scent.

She had a towel wrapped around her head, drying her damp hair. She looked... soft.

Vulnerable, even. The sight of her made Cain’s chest stir deeply—like an ache that tightened his chest and made him forget how to breathe.

Cain took a slow step forward, drawn to her like a moth to a flame. His gaze lingered on the curve of her neck, the delicate rise and fall of her chest as she breathed. His shirt draped over her like a second skin, and it stirred something in him.

"Avery," he muttered.

She looked up at him, eyes soft and trusting. "Fuck." Cain groaned and without thinking, he closed the distance and leaned down, pressing a kiss to her lips. Avery’s breath hitched, her eyelids fluttering closed, allowing herself to be pulled. Her hand reached up, fingers brushing lightly against his jaw, his heart clenched painfully. He needed her.

But his phone buzzed loudly, ruining the moment. Cain let out a breath and pulled back, his gaze flickering to the phone on the bedstead. Nathan’s name flashed boldly across the screen. "I’ll be right back," he said and walked away towards the balcony.

The call was quick. The man only called to let him know they had arrived in Silvermoon and were about to commence their duties. When he returned, the sight before him made him pause. Avery had drifted off, her breathing soft and even. She curled into the sheets, one hand clutching his pillow like she had reached for him in his absence. A piece of his heart cracked at the sight.
