Chapter 300 - Saving a life
Jian placed a hand on his friend’s shoulder as they stood outside the healer’s room, both of them staring through the glass at Dican’s unconscious body.
"He needs your help."
Nansich slowly raised a brow. "What can I do?"
Jian glanced at Xing Yu for a moment before looking back at him. "He needs his mate’s presence."
His expression immediately changed. "Uh... nah. That ain’t happening."
He shook his head so quickly that his hair moved with it.
"Jian, why do you keep asking me this? I’m not his mate. He is not my type, and we definitely won’t work out."
He pointed toward the healing chamber where Dican was still floating in the blue-golden liquid.
"Besides, doesn’t he already have Bian as his mate?"
"Yes! I can help him!" Bian immediately stepped forward, grabbing onto the chance. "I can stay with him. I can calm him down. I’m his mate, so let me go inside!"
Jian sighed. "He already tried."
Bian’s face stiffened.
"The healers let you stay with him, but nothing changed. His condition actually got worse." Jian turned his eyes toward Nansich again. "Nansich... he’s dying."
The joking expression disappeared from his face.
Jian’s brows were deeply furrowed, and there was an unusual helplessness in his eyes.
"I know this is too much to ask from you, but please." His voice softened. "You don’t need to do anything special. You don’t even have to talk to him. Just stay close to him and see if it helps."
Nansich looked through the glass again.
Dican was still suspended inside the machine, his pale face barely moving. The blue-golden light continued to sweep over his body, but there was no sign of him waking.
"Even so..." Nansich muttered.
He didn’t know what to do.
This was getting far too complicated.
He had come to Gia thinking he would simply stay with Jian, see this strange alien planet, maybe eat some interesting food, and eventually figure out where he belonged.
Instead, he had somehow ended up being called the mate of a prince who already had another mate.
That alone was enough to give him a headache.
He didn’t want to become a homewrecker.
He had no interest in coming between Dican and Bian, no matter how strange their relationship seemed. Whatever had happened between those two was their business.
But then Jian spoke again. "Nansich, please." His voice was quieter this time. "He’s my brother."
Nansich’s lips pressed into a thin line.
That made things difficult.
He looked at Jian, then through the glass at Dican again.
He wasn’t a doctor.
Hell, he wasn’t that guy’s so called mate.
In fact, he wasn’t even sure he believed all this mate-bond nonsense.
Yet...
That guy was dying.
Nansich slowly clenched his teeth.
He couldn’t simply stand there and watch someone die when he might be able to do something about it.
He finally let out a long breath. "Fine."
Jian’s eyes immediately brightened.
"But it doesn’t mean anything," he quickly added, pointing a finger at Bian. "That guy is still yours... well, his. Whatever. You know what I mean."
He glanced toward Bian intently. "I will not betray your trust. I’m not going to do anything with him, and I’m definitely not trying to steal someone’s mate."
His expression became unusually serious. "I’m...I’m just helping because he’s sick. That’s all."
Jian nodded. "we know...."
Nansich gritted his teeth before turning toward the healer’s room. "Fine. Let’s get this over with."
He pushed the door open and stepped inside.
The moment he crossed the threshold, the strange ache in his chest became even stronger.
Nansich frowned.
He had no idea why.
He only knew that the closer he got to Dican, the more familiar that strange pain felt.
The moment Nansich stepped into the healer’s room, several healers immediately rushed toward him.
"Are you Nansich?"
"Yeah... why?"
"Please remove your clothes."
Nansich’s eyes widened.
He immediately grabbed the front of his shirt with both hands and pulled it tightly against his chest, staring at the healers as if they had suddenly lost their minds.
"Why?! Why do you need me naked?!"
The healers exchanged a quick glance before one of them hurriedly explained.
"We need direct skin contact. The second prince’s condition is deteriorating rapidly, and skin-to-skin contact with his mate appears to be the fastest way to stabilize him."
"Skin to skin?"
Nansich looked horrified.
He slowly turned his head toward the healing chamber.
Dican was floating inside the blue-golden liquid, his pale body partly exposed above the strange healing fluid. His blond hair drifted around his face as the liquid moved gently around him, while the machines continued scanning his rapidly weakening vitals.
Nansich’s face immediately twisted.
"No."
He shook his head.
"Nope. Not happening."
He took a step backward.
"You guys have got the wrong person. I’m just his friend. A friend. That’s it."
The healers didn’t have time to argue.
Suddenly, a sharp warning sound filled the room.
Beep! Beep! Beep!
The peaceful hum of the healing machines changed into a frantic alarm.
Several healers immediately turned toward the glowing display.
"His vitals are dropping!"
"What?!"
"His energy levels are falling rapidly!"
"Quickly, increase the stabilizing flow!"
Nansich’s expression changed.
He stared through the glass at Dican’s pale face as the warning lights began flashing around the chamber.
The prince looked even weaker than before.
Nansich gritted his teeth.
"Damn it..."
One of the healers rushed toward him.
"We don’t have much time. If the mate bond is reacting to you, you may be the only person who can stabilize him."
Nansich stood frozen for another second.
His eyes remained fixed on Dican.
He hated this.
He hated being dragged into something he didn’t understand, hated that everyone seemed to expect him to accept this ridiculous mate nonsense without question.
But the alarms were getting louder.
And Dican was getting weaker.
Nansich clenched his fists.
Then he grabbed the hem of his shirt and yanked it over his head.
"Fucking fine!"
He threw the shirt aside and glared at the healers.
"How do I do this?!"
