Chapter 297 - Ex-lovers
Nansich was lying on the softest bed in the world.
The moment he had thrown himself onto it, the mattress had practically swallowed him whole, sinking comfortably beneath his weight. After five years of roaming around the world, killing things, sleeping on the dirt, and waking up with rocks digging into his back, this honestly felt like heaven. He let out a long, satisfied sigh and stared up at the ceiling with a huge grin on his face.
Being in an alien world wasn’t so bad after all.
Actually, it was fucking awesome.
He suddenly rolled out of bed and ran toward the window, practically bouncing with excitement as he pushed it open and peered outside. His room was located on the highest floor of one of the three enormous towers that made up the castle. Getting all the way up here wasn’t even difficult. The castle had some strange room where you simply walked inside, and somehow it would take you directly to whichever floor or room you wanted to reach.
It was basically magic.
Except, according to the Farians, it was advanced technology.
Nansich still couldn’t understand how half of the things on this planet worked, but that didn’t stop him from enjoying them.
He whistled softly as the fresh, slightly cold air rushed through the window and blew through his hair. From this height, the entire planet looked breathtaking. The strange glowing structures, the shimmering pathways, and the distant landscape all seemed almost unreal beneath the alien sky.
Who would have thought that a country bumpkin like him would one day be living the high life in a freaking alien castle?
His smile grew even brighter.
For the first time in years, he didn’t have to worry about where he would sleep that night or whether something would crawl out of the darkness and try to eat him while he was sleeping.
He could just relax.
Unfortunately, that peaceful feeling lasted only a few minutes.
A loud, hurried knock suddenly came from his door.
Nansich’s smile disappeared.
He turned around and stared at the door for a moment before walking toward it. He opened it only slightly, peering through the narrow gap.
Outside stood Bian.
The man was wearing an awkward smile.
"Nansich... hi. It’s been a while."
Nansich immediately closed the gap a little more, leaving only a tiny opening. His eyes narrowed as he studied the person standing outside.
Bian.
Once upon a time, Bian had been his sweetheart. He had been the person Nansich dreamed about every night before falling asleep, the person he had trusted more than anyone else. Back then, Nansich had never imagined that Bian would eventually manipulate him into doing so many terrible things.
But people changed.
Nansich had changed too.
He honestly hadn’t expected to see Bian again, especially not here, on an alien planet. The last time he had seen him, Bian had been completely freaking out and screaming that he was the blond guy’s mate or something.
And yet, here he was now, calmly standing outside Nansich’s room with a smile on his face.
It was very, very bizarre.
Nansich poked his head out slightly.
"I’m about to sleep. So talk to you later."
"Wait!"
Bian quickly shoved his fingers into the gap just as Nansich was about to close the door.
The delicate-looking metal fingers clutched the doorframe tightly.
With a sharp creak, the metal actually dented beneath his grip.
Nansich’s eyes widened.
Phew... that looks kind of strong.
He immediately shoved the door harder.
"I really need to rest. I’ll talk to you later, for sure."
"Nansich, please..." Bian softly urged.
His voice was gentle, almost pleading, and when he looked at him again, he saw tears gathering in his eyes.
Nansich froze.
That was the exact face he had once fallen for.
That pitiful, cute expression. Those slightly trembling lips. Those eyes filled with tears that made it almost impossible for him to turn the other person away.
Nansich sighed.
He really hated that face.
Reluctantly, he opened the door a little wider.
"Look, I have nothing to do with that blond guy. If you’re here to talk about him, then—"
"No, no..." Bian quickly interrupted him. "I came here to see you. I’m sorry I behaved like that outside. I was... out of sorts."
As he spoke, Bian reached up and tucked a long strand of brown hair behind his ear.
"I’m really sorry about that."
Before Nansich could say anything, the man casually stepped into his room.
Nansich stared after him in disbelief.
Did I invite him in?
Bian walked toward the small dining nook in the corner and sat down. He carefully placed his long golden cloak-like garment over the back of the chair before looking up at Nansich with a gentle smile.
"It’s okay..." Nansich muttered, backing away slightly. "So... how is living on an alien planet?"
"It’s good." Bian blinked innocently. "Dican has been good to me."
Nansich nodded slowly.
"How have you been?"
"Good, good..." Nansich scratched the back of his head. "Hunting and killing Graylings. Yeah, it was good."
He awkwardly looked away.
The conversation was so dry and uncomfortable that Nansich almost wanted to laugh.
What the hell were they even supposed to talk about?
They had once been lovers, yet now they were sitting in a strange alien castle, exchanging the most boring conversation imaginable.
Nansich tapped his foot against the floor and glanced at Bian again.
"Look, I really am tired. I just want to rest and—"
"Yes, I completely understand."
Bian suddenly stood up.
He reached beneath the cushion of the chair and pulled out his golden cloak. He draped it over his arm before turning toward Nansich.
"I’ll see you soon."
He smiled gently before walking toward the door.
Nansich watched his disappearing back with a small pout.
He didn’t know why, but something about Bian seemed different.
Maybe Bian really had changed too.
After all, Nansich himself had changed a lot during these five years. Perhaps Bian had finally realized his mistakes as well.
Thinking positively, Nansich closed the door behind him.
He didn’t notice the faint smile that disappeared from Bian’s face the moment the door shut. ’I hope... I hope they dont investigate it too deeply.’ he bit his lips anxiouosly.
