Chapter 1397: A Sincere Invitation
"Jiang Xue, why are you so anxious? I’m not going to eat you. Come, let’s sit in my office for a while."
Jiang Xue glanced at Bai Lan, knowing that if she refused, she probably couldn’t leave. Moreover, she didn’t know when Mr. Lan would return. So, after hesitating for a moment, she followed Bai Lan.
Bai Lan’s office was nearby, right next to Mr. Lan’s. Upon entering the office, Bai Lan poured Jiang Xue a cup of tea and then sat down across from her.
Jiang Xue had long speculated about Bai Lan’s intention for her, so she wasn’t surprised at all when Bai Lan began speaking.
Sure enough, Bai Lan still wanted her to join the State Security Bureau. Of course, like before, Jiang Xue refused. She could work with them but would not join them.
Because what she wanted was relatively free time. Once she joined, her time wouldn’t be hers to decide.
Seeing Jiang Xue’s resolute stance, Bai Lan couldn’t help but try persuading her. Yet, Jiang Xue remained unmoved, leaving Bai Lan frustrated.
The conversation couldn’t continue, and both felt somewhat awkward. Fortunately, someone soon came to tell Jiang Xue that Mr. Lan had returned.
Thus, she took the opportunity to stand up and take her leave.
Mr. Lan wasn’t surprised at all when he saw Jiang Xue coming out of Bai Lan’s office. Looking at Bai Lan with a wry smile, Mr. Lan raised his eyebrows at her, exchanging a knowing glance only understood by the two of them.
"Jiang Xue, I’m sorry to keep you waiting." Mr. Lan gestured for Jiang Xue to sit down and said apologetically.
"You’re too kind, Mr. Lan. I didn’t wait long. Just had some tea and chatted a bit with Mr. Bai."
"My subordinates mentioned it. How was it? Mr. Bai didn’t make things difficult for you, did he?"
"No!" Jiang Xue shook her head. Even if there was difficulty, she wouldn’t say. After all, Mr. Lan and Mr. Bai were colleagues, closely linked. Besides, he really didn’t make things difficult for her; asking her to join the State Security Bureau could only be considered an invitation.
"That’s good!" Mr. Lan let out a relieved expression. He had been worried that Jiang Xue might complain.
Thankfully, Jiang Xue didn’t. Mr. Lan grew increasingly satisfied with her. If Jiang Xue indeed wanted to complain, it would put him in a difficult position. After all, Bai Lan was his deputy, and many things were done with his approval; he couldn’t exactly punish her.
Jiang Xue was well aware of this, so she refrained from doing anything displeasing.
"Jiang Xue, you came to see me for a reason today, right?" Mr. Lan asked.
"Mr. Lan, Jin Hao called me today, and he still hasn’t given up. After thinking it over, I feel the timing and opportunity are right; I can negotiate with him."
"You’re planning to collaborate with him? Weren’t you worried about him taking over your company?" Mr. Lan looked at Jiang Xue in confusion. Just last night, Jiang Xue had mentioned that Jin Hao wanted not only her but also her company.
Last night, according to Jiang Xue, she wasn’t too keen. After all, that company was her hard work, and he could understand.
But it’s been less than a day, why had she changed her mind?
"Mr. Lan, have a look at this first!" Jiang Xue handed over the materials Jin Hao had sent over at noon to Mr. Lan. Mr. Lan looked at the all-English materials and felt a bit overwhelmed.
Seeing Mr. Lan’s perplexed expression, Jiang Xue knew he probably didn’t understand English, so she briefly explained the contents of the materials.
After listening, Mr. Lan glanced at Jiang Xue and said, "Can I have my people take a look at this?"
