Chapter 587 Self-Deception
"Uncle Jiang, don’t say that. My sister and brother-in-law will definitely be fine. Even the child believes they’ll be okay, so we should believe it too."
After Shangguan Wenbin finished speaking, he turned to Bai Yuhua and asked, "Isn’t that right, mother-in-law?"
Among these people, Bai Yuhua was the only one who consistently believed the couple would be fine, but nobody trusted her, so her persistence was in vain. The household atmosphere remained sorrowful and gloomy.
"Yes, I always believe they will be alright." Bai Yuhua nodded. She kept telling everyone they were fine, but they didn’t believe her, and there was nothing she could do about it.
Unless the two of them came back, everyone thought she was just deceiving herself.
"Well then, mother-in-law, don’t follow their lead. Have some food. Maybe after you eat, my sister and brother-in-law will come back."
"I’ll wait to eat until they return," Bai Yuhua said, and she wasn’t hungry either. Even though she believed they were okay, she still worried since they hadn’t returned.
Nobody was eating, and Shangguan Wenbin was at a loss. He glanced at the happily playing Little Reunion and handed over a bottle of milk he had bought.
He didn’t know how to cook or prepare food for the child, so he went out and bought a bottle of milk for Little Reunion to drink. He had already put the milk in the bottle, just right for Little Reunion to drink.
Little Reunion had been hungry for a while, but sensing the atmosphere wasn’t good, he didn’t fuss. Now, seeing the bottle Shangguan Wenbin handed over, he eagerly started drinking.
"Don’t rush, no one is going to snatch it from you. Drink slowly," Shangguan Wenbin coaxed softly as he watched Little Reunion drink quickly.
After a few sips to settle his stomach, Little Reunion began to drink more slowly.
Once he was full, Little Reunion resumed playing by himself, and Shangguan Wenbin tried once more to persuade everyone to eat. None of the elderly listened, and he felt awkward eating alone.
Finally, seeing everyone’s sorrowful faces made Shangguan Wenbin feel terrible, so he found an excuse to go and look for Mu Qiancheng and Jiang Xue, then left.
After leaving the house and going downstairs, Shangguan Wenbin was heading toward his car parked below. That’s when he saw two figures in the distance resembling Jiang Xue and Mu Qiancheng. Startled, he dashed toward them.
As he got closer, he confirmed it was indeed Jiang Xue and Mu Qiancheng. Shangguan Wenbin became excited, a broad smile on his face, and he shouted, "Sis, brother-in-law!"
Hearing the shout, Jiang Xue and Mu Qiancheng looked up and saw Shangguan Wenbin. They couldn’t help but ask, "What are you doing out here, heading back to school?"
"School? Not at all, I was planning to look for you guys. Didn’t expect you’d already be back," Shangguan Wenbin replied with a laugh, looking Mu Qiancheng and Jiang Xue over as he asked, "Sis, brother-in-law, are you okay? Any injuries? Do you need to visit the hospital first?"
"No need, we’re fine!" Jiang Xue and Mu Qiancheng shook their heads, then asked, "How about everyone else?"
"They’re at home."
"Are they alright?" Jiang Xue asked.
"They’ve been worried about you; none of them even ate lunch."
Hearing this, Mu Qiancheng and Jiang Xue exchanged a glance and then quickened their pace towards home. They understood that the elders weren’t eating out of concern and might have feared something had happened to them.
Back home, as soon as the door opened, Shangguan Wenbin loudly announced to everyone inside, "My sister and brother-in-law are back!"
"What?" The elders could hardly believe it and suddenly stood up, looking towards the door.
