Crashing into an Old Flame

Chapter 41: Enemies-to-lovers

After dropping Diana at the mansion, Maxim drove off to the hospital.

He parked the car in the VIP parking lot and alighted the car.

But before he could enter the hospital, his phone started ringing.

He took out the phone from his pocket and glanced at the caller ID.

A frown settled between his brows when he saw Diana’s name flashing on the top.

He answered the call but before he could say anything, he heard something crashing in the background.

His heart thudded without a warning as the spitting image of Diana’s paranoia flashed in his mind. In the past few weeks, he has seen how wary she was of her surroundings.

She lost control of her emotions when she thought Ivy broke into the mansion and she continuously kept asking him if the security in Arkell Hills was good enough.

He acted like he did not notice it but that did not mean he didn’t. The Diana he was familiar with was fearless and bold. But the woman who was living under the same roof as him had fears that he could sense, despite how she tried to hide them, sometimes her mask slipped. She was still the same but something was eating her up from inside.

He could feel it and as much as it made his heart ache for her, he knew it was not his place to ask her anything about it. They were friends. Only friends. Friends with every goddamned boundary between them.

And he would lend her his shoulder if she ever needed it or asked for it but not on his own initiative. That’s what he had decided on.
