Chapter 299: Attack from the night
The carriage started to shake violently. Arrow piercing through the wooden frames of the carriage. A scream echoed as one successfully flew through the carriage and almost struck the princess. Luckily, Evelyn caught it before it could harm Abrielle.
"We are under attack!!" Axel screamed out the obvious as soon as he realized what was going on. He could sense the presence. They were not the sorcerers, they didn’t have the ominous presence of the sorcerers.
"Bloody hell," the coachman screamed while trying his best to control the horses, but it was for nought. Evelyn had realized the situation already; she was confused about whether she should try to flee with the princess and wait in the carriage.
They had no idea how many were out there or how strong they were. Her priority was Abrielle’s safety; although no one said it directly, she knew her master would release chaos if something happened to the princess.
As soon as the shootings started, Abrielle moved to the middle of the carriage, where she was shielded by the maids. "What do they want?" She asked half screaming.
"I have no idea, they might either be enemies of the prince or something else. I don’t think they are the sorcerers." Evelyn stated her observation. Due to the violent shaking of the carriage, Abrielle was already bruised, as her body was earlier tossed by the force to hit the frames.
"Everything will be fine; worst-case scenario, be ready to jump," Evelyn warned Abrielle. Her eyes narrowed wondering what was going on out there.
The coachman struggled to gain control, an arrow which was lit with flames struck the horse’s reigns and the carriage wheels. Amid the chaos, the horses went erratic and broke free while the wheels were destroyed, leaving them stranded.
Due to the force, the carriage lost its balance, rolling down the road into the woods. Even the sturdy carriage could not stand the force of being hit from different angles. Axel and the coachman were lucky enough to jump out before the carriage started to roll but there was no time to get the princess down
Axel stood at the edge of the road, dread creeping up his heart as he watched the carriage roll. Nothing should happen to the princess. He rushed with the coachman down the hill to the falling carriage.
A range of arrows lit on fire stopped them, and soon, they were surrounded by hooded figures. No words were said, the other side started to attack immediately. "I will cover for you go warn the prince," Axel Instructed the coachman as he unsheathed his sword to fend off the attack.
The assailants had their faces all covered; from the way they fought, Axel recognized they had no intentions of killing him. They just wanted to keep him away. The main target was Abrielle. "Good luck," the coachman screamed as he ran away.
