The Veil of Darkness

Chapter 202: Inside... Or Outside?

Annalise stared at the huge wooden door in front of her. She had been standing there, unmoving, for a while and she had next to no clue exactly how she ended up on the topmost floor of the castle. She just wanted to get away from everyone for a while and somehow, her instincts took her to this particular place.

She raised one of her hands and placed it against the cold wood carved with several intricate designs most of which made no sense to her. She didn’t even plan to do it but her powers suddenly surfaced and a force of energy pushed out of her palm and stretched across the entire door.

Snatching her hand back in shock, she hurriedly stepped back a little bit while staring at her powers taking down the spell that was cast on the door before the door flew open and she was given entrance into the room on the other side.

Her attention turned away from the door and found her hand that was trembling slightly as Valerius’ words rang into her ears - ’How long are you planning running from all the truths that have started surrounding you, Annalise? The more you will try to avoid them, the more they will surround you, and if you continue like this, it won’t be long before you will start feeling suffocated.’

She hurriedly clenched her shaking fingers into a tight fist as her gaze returned to the door that was now wide open as her powers had taken down the ancient old spell that had been placed on it for thousands of years.

"Since you have opened it, why not enter and see exactly what sorts of secrets are hidden here that this was the most guarded place in this entire castle after the basement?" The sudden suggestion came from someone that Annalise was not expecting to see at the moment at all.

"What are you doing here?" She asked the little thing as it fluttered its soft feathery wings before turning its sharp eyes back toward the room. Despite the fact that they both were standing right in front of the open door, they could hardly see what was inside the room probably because of some other spell that was still working.

"I was actually expecting Master to summon me right after you realized that I wasn’t being honest with you, however, you did no such thing, so I decided to continue my training in the basement. The only reason I’m here right now is that I’m also interested in the secrets of this room." The little snow answered without even sparing her a single glance.

Annalise opened her mouth to speak but before she could have done that, the little furball left her behind and entered the room. "Hey! Where do you think you are going all alone like that?" She called behind the little snow lion but her familiar was long gone and seemed to have no intentions of coming out to respond to her.
