Chapter 110: Eyes of the Faes
Annalise stared at the twin daggers that Kenric was holding above his palm, surrounded by a massive amount of fire essence. She immediately knew that, unlike the sword, the daggers were not only way more powerful but also valuable.
They matched the aura of their master and she could tell that they also carried the ability to manipulate fire. It was just a guess but a good one based on the flickers of fire energy that she noticed in the handles of the daggers.
She didn’t even realize that she was doing it but her hand was already reaching out to touch the weapons. However, before she could have touched them, Kenric stopped her as he closed his palm and the daggers disappeared.
She immediately looked up at his face in confusion. In response, the man cupped her face with one of his palms and grazed her cheek with his thumb before he spoke, "Those daggers are not ordinary weapons, you can’t touch them just like that. Let me warn you, Little Bird, never touch the weapons that belong to any three of us because it’s really dangerous. Even we don’t meddle with each other’s weapons."
She immediately nodded her head in understanding as she could tell that he was being serious. She noticed how he immediately relaxed and took in a deep breath before he once again took hold of her hand and resumed their search.
"What are we exactly looking for?" She asked as she kept her eyes focused so that she won’t miss anything that should not be missed but the problem was - she had no idea what to look for.
"Anything that doesn’t look natural. Something that doesn’t seem to belong to this place." Kenric answered as he stopped near the huge windows of the hall and observed them for a while.
"Something not natural... " Annalise repeated his words, trying to understand what he meant by that. "But how can you tell if a certain thing belongs to this place or not?" She asked again, not sure if she was being completely stupid at this point.
Before her marriage, she was known as not only the most beautiful maiden in the Seelie Empire but also the most knowledgeable person when it came to magical spells and other information related to the four realms. People used to praise her father for educating her to such an extreme level that she was considered a genius.
However, ever since her marriage, she had started to realize just how stupid she was to think that. Her knowledge of the four realms and the magical spells were really as bad as her physical strength. Maybe, just maybe, she really needed to work on her poor skills.
Kenric stopped whatever he was doing and turned to face her, his obsidian eyes were shining under the bright light of the moonstones. "It can be a feeling, an instinct, or something like that. You will know the moment your eyes will land on it. For example, look behind you and tell me if something is amiss here."
