The Veil of Darkness

Chapter 69: The Unexpected Journey

Once again Annalise found herself all alone at the dinner table as all her husbands were once again absent from the occasion. She barely got to see them during meal times. It was only once in a while when they accompanied her during meal times.

Finishing her meal, she headed toward the porch with a glass of hot milk in her hands. The sky was filled with stars and a crescent while a soft breeze was blowing, making the atmosphere cool and likable.

She settled down on one of the chairs sitting on the porch, facing the beautiful magnificent fountain. Her eyes wandered across the vast garden, noticing the changes that had appeared in the place in the past half a month because of all the hard work that Mr. Warren, Aunt Claire, Garron, and Sera had put into bringing it back to life.

Her thoughts were disturbed when she felt a soft and warm quilt landing over her shoulders before Valerius came into her view as he moved to sit beside her on the other empty chair.

The immediate warmth that followed his presence filled their bond as he took hold of her hands and rubbed them between his palms to warm them up as her fingertips were completely freezing.

"Why are you sitting here all alone?" He asked as he finally looked up to stare straight into her eyes. Their gaze collided together and created an icy current that sent sparks flying between them. And even though it wasn’t intended, she still ended up thinking about their night together.

A mirror wasn’t required for her to find out that her cheeks were already a dark shade of red as she felt both embarrassed and even ashamed for thinking about something like that. Her innocence seemed to be completely destroyed by her husbands within the half a month that she had spent with them since their marriage.

"The weather is nice. I just came here to enjoy the night view and the cool breeze." She finally mustered up an answer as she cleared her throat and took a huge sip of the milk that had already started turning cold.

"You should have invited us too, the weather is indeed good," Valerius spoke as he finally let go of her hands and turned to look at the night sky.

Annalise took this moment to appreciate the beauty of her husband, the man was indeed too good-looking for anyone’s good. As usual, his long silver hair was styled simply as they were left loose down his shoulders and back, only two little braids on both sides were a little change from the usual style she was used to.

He was wearing a light blue colored robe unlike his usual white one but the color only added power to his icy aura, and his eyes - they were the epitome of his ethereal beauty.

"If you will keep looking at me like that, I won’t be able to keep myself in control." His voice was soft and his attention was still on the sky but the effect of his words was as strong as it could have ever been.
