The Veil of Darkness

Chapter 44: They Are Powerful

"How did I even do that?" Annalise asked for the dozenth time as she stared at the basket filled with the green apples that she magically grew on the age-old apple tree trunk.

She was now sitting on the grass-covered ground with Pristine still busy inspecting the tree to search for only stars knew what.

"This isn’t really bad, to be honest." The fairy finally spoke as she came to take a seat beside Annalise on the ground. "It means that you have the powers inside you, just need someone to guide you."

"What are you talking about?" Annalise asked as she picked up one of the apples and smelled it, immediately getting attacked by its sweet and alluring scent that enticed her to take a bite. But instead of doing that, she shoved the apple back into the basket.

"They are good, you can eat them," Pristine told her as she picked up one of the apples and took a huge bite, even closing her eyes as she enjoyed the sweetness of the juicy fruit.

"You are avoiding my question again." Annalise wasn’t going to let her get away a second time without answering her questions. There was only a certain limit for a girl to keep her curiosity in check.

"What I’m trying to say is simple - you are an elemental fae descendent and you have the source of elemental powers in you. That’s probably why you are being able to return this place to life. That apple tree was a test that I wanted you to perform so that I can see the potential of your powers. Though it didn’t turn out as expected, the result was still positive. You just need proper guidance to control your powers."

Annalise first stared at the fairy girl for a certain few moments before she turned her attention to her hands as if to see some sort of magical powers in them. Even though she was indeed an elemental fae descended, the most she could do with her powers were a few charms and spells that could come in handy in daily life.

Using powers to grow a tree or even save a dying tree - that seemed like something that only a halfling or a full-blood elemental fae could do. But then how did she grow those apples?

She felt her head buzzing with questions and there was no one to answer all of them. Looking at Pristine who was busy enjoying her apple, it was clear that the fairy would only tell her what she wanted to tell, nothing more and nothing less.

"So are you going to teach me how to use my... uh... powers?" She found herself asking after a few seconds of silence.

"Guiding you, I can do that but I’m not the best candidate when it comes to teaching. It’s better if you ask your husbands to do it. They will prove way much better teachers than I can ever be in my entire immortal life." Pristine responded with a little shake of her head as she took another bite of her apple.
