Chapter 136: SHOOT THEM
Earlier, Eilon took Hazel to his bedroom to show his drawing.
Therefore, to see one of the assassins enter Eilon’s bedroom, her concern for the little boy overrode her better judgment.
Ignoring Ranon’s warning, Hazel followed the intruder and watched in horror as he prepared to harm Eilon.
It was not usual for the assassin to attack a child if it was not necessary, but then not many people in their community followed that conduct.
Still, it was weird.
Without hesitation, Hazel aimed and shot the assassin in the leg, not intending to kill, just to disable him when the assassin put on the muffler and was about to put the sleeping Eilon at gunpoint.
Hazel used a muffler too, but the guttural groan from the man stirred Eilon from his sleep, and he began to cry upon seeing a masked man inside his bedroom, piercing the night with his frightened wails.
"Arrghh!" Eilon screamed. "Go away! No! Mommy!"
Hazel’s heart raced; she darted ahead and kicked the man to put the distance between him and Eilon. The man stumbled, and his gun skidded across the room. When Hazel reached the little boy, she hugged him protectively.
Murderous intent in her eyes when she watched that man trying to stand up, she shot his hand when he tried to reach for his gun again.
Eilon was still crying, and this sound woke several people, attracting attention, and chaos began to unfold.
