Chapter 96: THE NIGHT OF THE CELEBRATION
"Actually, it’s not something that I want. I called you because I want to warn you that the Lozens is a sinking ship, and you need to save yourself before you get caught in the middle of it."
Hazel wouldn’t tell Rafael directly what he needed to do, because someone like him wouldn’t appreciate being told.
"This is interesting; you actually warned me about your family. You said they are going to go down. Is it safe to say that you are the one who will bring them down?" Rafael was surprised with her intention to call him.
"I made this phone call to tell you that it’s not a wise decision to stay with the Lozens. If I were you, I would wash my hands of anything related to them.
"You are going to bring your family down." That was not even a question, but a statement. "Is it because you were betrayed by your sister and your ex-fiancé? Don’t you think that’s too much? I don’t think your father will agree with that."
"I don’t need his permission to ruin them. I called you because you are my precious client." The sarcasm was very thick when she called him her ’precious client.’ "That’s why I have this obligation to let you know what will happen."
"A precious client, huh? Why did when the word came out of your mouth, it sounded like you were mocking me?" Rafael stared at the dance floor, where people danced crazily to the loud music. "How can I trust you when you are going to stab your own father? It’s very obvious that you are holding a grudge against them. What if you actually let me walk into a trap instead? What game are you playing?"
Hazel knew how cautious Rafael was, but then she also knew how to startle him a bit. "Let’s say I know your deal with the Lozen family. I know everything more than your dirty deals with them. All of their dirty deals. I have every card that I need to ruin them. My warning is only a courtesy for you since they are going to go down. I warn you to make a better choice. It’s not every day that I am this generous."
The playfulness in their banter disappeared as they turned serious. "And what if you change sides and stab me instead?"
"Why should I?"
"I don’t know, since you are going to ruin your family, the family that meant so much to you. What am I in your eyes?"
