Reincarnated As A Lion In Another World

Chapter 428: The Hunter Or The Hunted

"Hey, Mr Hastleton’s car just left the house," The security guard spoke into his earpiece with an unsettled expression.

He stood under one of the streetlights close to Mr Hastleton’s gate. He was currently looking at the house which he had been asked to check out.

It had been a few seconds and the gatekeeper had not yet returned to his post. The house was eerily silent. The gate, which had been opened automatically, did not close.

The gate remained open, leaving the house fully exposed.

Something was wrong.

"Okay, the visitor must be leaving then," The security guard on the other side of the earpiece said with a look of relief on his face.

"No, no, no!" The guard close to Mr Hastleton’s gate shook his head, raising his voice, "It’s not Mr Hastleton that’s driving the car! Don’t let that guy pass through! Close the gate!"

As he shouted into his earpiece, the security guard ran into Mr Hastleton’s compound.

////

Ben had heard everything said on the earpiece even though he was quite a distance away from the guard.

He naturally understood every word spoken through the communication line.

He turned around to see the security guard stepping out of his guard post with a look of extreme vigilance on his face. In his hand, he held a rubber bullet handgun and his eyes were locked on the estate.

He reached up to the wall next to the door and pressed a button on the other side. The two massive gates of the estate began to move. The little wheels that rolled under the impressive weight of the two gates created noises that stung the ear.

"It’s Joseph Wemberly," Zion said to Jocelyn, speaking another language entirely.

He opened the car for and gently stepped out of the car before also slamming it shut with the same gentleness. It was like he was afraid of damaging the vehicle and was intentionally trying to control his strength.

The wind picked up, Zion’s white hair and the ends of his trench coat flowed back.

Zion looked up, noticing that there was a full moon hanging above their heads.

"How ominous," He muttered, clenching his fist as the desire to hunt continued rising within his chest.

*VROOM!*

The sound of a car speeding over from a distance was heard by everyone at the gate. One could tell that the car was moving fast as if it had no intention of stopping.

*Sigh!*

Jocelyn sighed, "That’s our guy," She said, blue electricity cracking around her arm.

The security guards didn’t see this strange occurrence as their gaze was focused on the approaching headlights.

Jocelyn finally stepped out of the car, she stared ahead, trying to suppress the strange desire she was having.

The truck was left empty. Jocelyn, Zion, and Ben were now standing in front of the gate with the security guards.

Waiting.

The sound of tires being dragged across the bitumen road was heard as Mr Hastleton’s car screeched to a halt about a hundred meters in front of the gate.

Inside the car, Ralph sat behind the steering wheel. His eyes were locked on the figures ahead.

Currently, his face wasn’t as gentle or docile as it had been before. His yellow eyes practically wept with detached coldness and his mouth was covered in blood.

They were finally here, Ralph thought. Those who were hunting him, he could ’see’ them.

Those three figures standing behind the closed gate.

One of them had short white hair and wore a nice black trench coat over his inner attire. The one next to her possessed a feminine figure and an electrifying presence, just standing there made her seem like the nexus of power.

All of them were tall, six feet or more, but the last one actually surprised Ralph a bit. Not only was he standing seven feet tall, his body was massive and burly.

The right muscles were in the right places. No disproportionately distributed body mass could be found.

He was perfect.

Now that the gate was closed, Ralph had no way of escaping. He had miscalculated.

If that security guard had not come to check up on Mr Hastleton’s house, he wouldn’t have alerted the guards at the gate. If the guards at the gate were not alerted, the gate should have remained open.

It should have been enough for him to just drive off without an explanation as the guards wouldn’t expect it and try to stop him.

The issue was that something had happened to trigger the guards to send someone to check Mr Hastleton’s house, messing up Ralph’s plans.

Who could it have been?

Ralph narrowed his eyes at the three figures, he didn’t need to be a genius to know that it was them.

They were variables that he had never accounted for in his equations.

The gate was strong, very strong. The upper class had paid well for their security. Even if he rammed into the gate going more than a hundred kilometers an hour, it wouldn’t budge.

And even if he got past the gate, he still had to attend to his ’guests’.

Sighing, Ralph opened the car door and stepped out of the car. His tall form bathed under the light of the full moon.

Now, standing out in the open, Ralph’s breathing calmed. His eyes were no longer merely yellow, they glowed.

"He’s one of those freaks," The head security guard said as he used one hand to reach into his pocket, attempting to get his security phone.

The two other security guards kept their guns aimed at Ralph as their leader made the call.

Unfortunately, his security phone wasn’t working at all. It came in and off and the signal was all over the place. It was like something was jamming its system and preventing it from operating well.

Jocelyn took a deep breath, her eyes had begun to glow and small blue electric arcs streaked between her fingers. Her aura was suppressed but it didn’t stop her from generating an electromagnetic field around her.

She herself didn’t know the effects this electromagnetic field had on electronics. She had always had the field generated around her in the past and she used it as a sensory ability most times.

To find out that her electromagnetic field was now interfering with the security guard’s phones was a welcome fact.

But now, she couldn’t be bothered to explore more about it.

Ralph had moved.

"He’s fast," Zion said.

Ralph ran forward toward the gate, instantly accelerating to inhuman speeds. In the blink of an eye, he had turned into a blue which quickly approached the gate.

’I can’t read his surface thoughts,’ Zion thought.

Ralph’s heavy steps got closer and closer until he was right in front of the gate. It had taken him eight or so seconds to cross a hundred meters.

The security guards had already begun firing their guns even before Ralph arrived. But Ralph ran in a zig-zag pattern, dodging all the bullets.

"Shit! It’s really one of..." The panicking security guard had not finished talking when Ralph leaped into the air.

Under their astounded gazes, Ralph jumped over the five-meter-tall gates like it was nothing.

Out of instinct, their gun aims followed Ralph into the air, and they continued shooting without thinking.

But just as Ralph had jumped high, he had also jumped fast. Only two rubber bullets managed to strike his back and they didn’t even leave a scratch.

*BAM! CRASH!*

Ralph landed on the bonnet of the truck, instantly crushing it and bashing the engine to the ground. The windshield cracked and the alarms blared.

Ralph had a lot of weight apparently.

He had landed on his feet and was already on his way as soon as he got his bearings. He shot forward, running away faster than any normal human could.

Bullets were still fired but none of them met their mark, Ralph was fast. He had moved like a ghost in the night, evading with experience.

One of the security guards began talking into his earpiece, alerting all units around the estate to what they had just experienced.

Meanwhile, the security guard who had gone to check Mr Hastleton’s house was reporting some disturbing news.

While all this was happening, Jocelyn, Ben, and Zion, stood there with their backs against the escaping Ralph.

"Wow!" Ben laughed, turning around to see the damaged truck, "That guy, he makes me feel so..."

"Excited?" Jocelyn asked, a smile creeping up her lips.

"I thought I was the only one who wanted to give him some time to run. I guess we all think the same," Zion said, somewhat disturbed by the fact that they all wanted to treat this guy as if he were a prey.

It was like a game.

A game of predator and prey.

"Something tells me I’m going to feel a little better once I catch him," Ben said as he began walking.

"Same," Jocelyn said with a nod. Zion took a moment to relay his report into the collective spirit channel.

The hunt had begun.
