Chapter 425: Driving
"We’re on it, Young Prince," Said the blue-haired female wolf in humanoid form as she was still adjusting to her very human-like look.
She stood in a car park, along with two other ’humans’.
Out of all the creatures that had tagged along for this first batch trip, there were fifty wolves among them.
Each of these wolves was at the peak of tier 3, just one or two steps away from making that final jump into tier 4.
They had been grouped into a few temporary packs with each pack having two or three members.
They were spread out across the city. They didn’t know where the Primordial Wolf was so they had rushed off in different directions.
This group of five who were currently standing in the car park had started at this particular edge of the city which had a bustling life and activity.
Coincidentally, the family of the king had decided to start in this particular district as well.
Technically, it was better to just spread out all over the planet as they didn’t know which place the Primordial Wolf would be hiding at.
But since they needed Priya to share with them the language models and shift technique, the wolves had to wait behind for a while.
Now, the remaining nine wolf packs have moved out of the city since they have received their language models telepathically.
The only pack left was this group of three standing in the car park.
"That Silas is such a responsible guy. I doubt if any of the other royals are even that interested in finding the Primordial Wolf." A big burly man said, folding his hands against his chest.
He stood nearly seven feet tall and would attract a lot of gazes from both men and women if she decided to walk into the main road.
The leader of this pack, the woman who had just spoken to Silas, nodded her head, "Most of them just want to explore the place,"
"Should we be talking about the Royals like this? Someone might hear us," The spirit wolf man among them said.
His white hair fell over his eyes, blocking most of his physical sight. But he was still able to see, not with his eyes, but with his mind.
"Well, I doubt they’d care if we admitted the truth to ourselves," The big man said.
"That’s enough Ben, Zion is right, let’s not desecrate the name of His Majesty and his family," The woman said, blue electricity flashing in her eyes.
"Ha, no one’s listening, besides, don’t act like you don’t secretly despise that fox lady that is always following the First Prince," Ben, the big guy said while looking around.
They all wore black clothes that fit into the night with Zion having added a trench coat.
"Well, that’s because everyone doesn’t like her, except the first prince," The leader said.
She too started looking around for something. They were in a car park which was next to a hospital.
The car park still had a lot of cars since there was never a time when hospitals didn’t have patients.
The green of them recognized that these machines were vehicles used to transport humans from one place to another. It was nice and would be inconspicuous if they used it.
They had to find a means of transportation before the spirit mark got too far away.
"Nah, you’re just jealous Jocelyn," Ben laughed, walking over to a high-rise truck that was conveniently parked at one corner.
Jocelyn, the blue-haired leader, frowned, "She got her current status by cajoling the Prince. I worked hard to be where I am today.
In terms of strength, she is nowhere near strong enough to receive five attacks from me.
Why won’t I be angry?"
Jocelyn walked toward the truck. Ben had already climbed into the back space. He was too big to comfortably pass through the doorway of the truck, talk less of staying inside.
The back space would be okay for him.
"Do you know how to drive this?" Jocelyn asked both Ben and Zion.
"Oh, I’m currently scanning the minds of a few humans inside the building for anything related to driving these machines," Zion said, his eyes glowing with the power of spirit energy.
"You know, if you were in her shoes, you would also jump on to that opportunity. It’s not every day you find a royal willing to have romance with someone outside his race," Ben said.
As he sat down on the bottom of the back space, the whole truck rocked back and forth.
"I wouldn’t, the royal are to be respected. If, and I say this with absolute respect for the royals, if one of the princes ever found interest in me, I would decline," Jocelyn said with a straight expression.
"Boss, I’ve never heard a lie sound so believable like yours before," Ben laughed.
Before Jocelyn could counter, Zion alerted them. He transferred a load of information into their minds containing the basics of how to drive a simple car.
"Let’s go," Jocelyn said before getting into the truck. Zion sat in the passenger seat next to Jocelyn.
The keys were absent. Jocelyn hissed, then used her electric powers to kickstart the truck.
As an Electric Wolf, she could feel the mediums and electric currents that flowed through the environment. Her short stay here had caused her to understand that this world relied heavily on electricity for most of its technology as a source of energy.
If she had time, she would have loved to study the workings of these technologies and understand how they can convert electricity into usable energy that wasn’t as destructive as she had always known it to be.
She had surged the truck with her spark, hoping that her guess would turn out right. And it did.
The dashboard lit up, showing the fuel gauges, speed meter, seat belt alerts, and other strange visuals she had never seen before.
"The people you extracted this information from, I’m guessing you made use of their memories. Won’t that attract attention?" Jocelyn asked while running her fingers over the leather rims of the steering wheel.
"Yeah, but as long as it doesn’t really disrupt the lives of the majority, it doesn’t matter much.
Next time I’ll use suggestions to make one of them teach us how things work, instead of extracting their memories," Zion said.
He wasn’t as good as Priya when it came to the art of spirit energy.
Somewhere around the hospital, some people would notice that they suddenly lost all their memories concerning driving.
Just like that, they had ’forgotten’ how to drive.
Jocelyn pressed the accelerator pedal and adjusted the gear stick. After some testing and some back-and-forth movement, Jocelyn finally pulled out of the car park and drove the truck into the main road.
At first, she drove slowly, maintaining her lane and keeping some distance between the other cars.
They would have been faster if they had just gone on foot, but for the sake of conformity.
Suddenly, Ben’s booming voice came from the back, "I bet you that Her Highness Priya created our language model using just their surface thoughts.
Why can’t you do that, Zion?"
Zion sighed, "Because she’s stronger than me," He said. He was already uploading the information he got on how to drive into the collective spirit channel.
All of the Spirit-based creatures in this expedition were required to upload reports every now and then, including crucial information that could make them work more easily and more efficiently.
Soon, all the creatures who came here from the arkship would know how to drive a car...
"She’s stronger than you? She could already do that when she was in tier 3 mind you. By then she was laying the foundation for her hivemind technique," Ben argued back.
Zion shook his head, "So, she’s a lioness. Royals are more talented than we ordinary folks."
Ben scoffed, "Skill issue," He said before resting his back on the side of the trunk.
"Let’s just follow the spirit mark, it might be our Primordial Wolf," Jocelyn said as she applied more pressure to the accelerator pedal.
The truck sped up. She was connected to Zion via a casual spirit link that only allowed her to sense the location of the Spirit Mark.
It was moving.
By now, their truck was weaving through the traffic, and unbeknownst to them, they had disobeyed several traffic regulations and rules of the city.
Multiple street cameras had taken photos of their faces and the truck’s plate number.
"Are you that eager to find the Primordial Wolf?" Zion asked.
"You’re not?" Jocelyn questioned back with a raised eyebrow.
"Well, I’m equally as fascinated by this world as the royals and would like to learn how it all works.
This is our first time in another world, you know that right?
Do you think we would be able to stay a bit longer after finding the Primordial Wolf?" Zion asked.
Jocelyn agreed with him but she did not have the power to make that decision.
She remembered something though, "Whether we catch the Primordial Wolf early or not, we still have to wait for His Majesty.
From what I heard, King Kael has his own intentions concerning this world that might not necessarily involve the Primordial Wolf.
If...Maybe, but if the opportunity arises, we could tag along."
