Chapter 45: Uglier Than Ghost
"Where were you last night?" Megan glared at Nora with the desire to kill her. "From the first day I have known that you would be trouble. I do not know why the principal decided to keep you here when he could have sent you with your family." she exclaimed looking exasperated.
"Come with me, we are going to the principal’s office." high on her heels, Megan did not wait for Nora to reply. She had already started walking toward the principal’s office.
Many girls who were leaving for school witnessed the scene. A few of them whispered in the ears of each other while others giggled looking at her condition. Penny was one of them. She was leaning on the door with her hands folded around her chest and a cold look in her eyes.
Megan explained the reason for her coming to the peon and waited for him to get permission from the principal.
"I have handled a lot of troublesome children like you, Leonora. I thought that you would be docile for a week at least." a condescending smile appeared on her lips as she kept staring at the young girl till the door opened.
Megan did not wait for Nora to follow her as she walked in. When Nora entered, her eyes fell on an envelope with the seal of the hospital on the table and a lot of papers there. The principal folded them when he noticed her staring.
He waited patiently until Megan explained to him that Nora was absent from the dorm for the whole night. He looked at Nora with a raised brow.
"I was admitted to the hospital a week ago. I was due for a test and did not want to miss my classes. So I have requested the hospital to give me a night check up. I went to inform Miss Megan before leaving. But she was not on her desk. So, I wrote a note and left." she explained in a calm voice only for Megan to grit her teeth.
Last night she had received a call from her new boyfriend and she had indulged in his fantasy of sexting so she had left her position for an hour.
"Ha! I only have a washroom. You could have waited for me. And I do not receive any notes. Kids these days lie and do not care for repuccersions. Is it because you think you can always lie your way out?" Megan shook her head with a look of disappointment.
"You must deal with her. If she kept behaving like that, other girls would learn from her and leave the dorm whenever they wanted. How could I assure their safety then?" her voice was full of righteousness. And she looked at the principal with a resolute gaze. As if she would not leave without getting her dismissed.
The principal closed the file and looked at Nora with a helpless gaze. But the girl wore confidence on her face strongly that she could not be intimidated by any kind of threat.
