Chapter 126: The Puzzle of Memories
Eryx gently closed the door, careful not to wake Lunara. As he walked down the hallway, he ran into his mother, Regina.
"Going back to the office?" Regina stopped him with a soft voice. "It would be better if you just worked in your study, like you did last week."
Eryx shook his head lightly. "There’s an issue that needs me there," he said calmly. Then, noticing the tired lines on Regina’s face, he added, "You should get some rest. It’s already late."
Regina smiled faintly and bobbed her head. "Hmm... be careful, and don’t push yourself too hard." She reached out as if to touch his cheek but stopped midway. "Good night," she said softly, then walked past him.
"Mom..."
Eryx called out to her.
Regina paused, turning slightly to face him.
He hesitated for a moment, then said, "Thank you... for what you did for Lunara. I know... it wasn’t easy."
Regina’s expression softened. A mixture of guilt and warmth crossed her features. "It was the least I could do," she said, her voice almost a whisper. "For her... and for Lilith."
For a moment, neither of them spoke. Then Regina gave him a small nod before continuing down the hallway, her steps slow and quiet.
Eryx stood there for a second longer before letting out a weak sigh. "Mom..."
