Chapter 156: CAN I JOIN?
"Then I don’t mind."
Dove looked at him dumbly for a moment, before she averted her eyes quickly feeling a little flustered. What was that? What did he mean by that? Dove thought. And her heart, it was again there racing for no reasons.
She looked at him from the corner of her eyes to find him sitting there casually like he does, and he was answering to something that Senior Sterling asked him. While, she had her head lowered, having a thousand thoughts going around her head. But then Dove lightly shook her head and she said to herself. ’I am just thinking a lot too much.’
After a while, when they finished the dinner, the servants cleared the table. And the family continued sitting on the table for a while, talking and gossiping about different things happening around in the world.
And as the night deepened a little more, one by one left to retire for the night. The set up on the garden was cleared up, and everything was back to how it was. But Dante remained back in the garden. He had a couple of phone calls to make and attend about work. And Calix too had to report him about work. And now it was done. He sat in one of the benches looking up at the sky. The sky was clear today, and the stars were clearly visible, looking beautiful. Soft night breeze was blowing, softly ruffling his hairs. The atmosphere was beautiful enough to calm one’s inner tranquil.
And currently, Dante’s mind and heart was clear and some what at peace.
Then he heard a faint noise from the side, and turning his head he saw Dove come and stand there. They spoke nothing and stared at each other for a couple of seconds, before Dove said, "Can I join you, Mr Lancaster?" Dante who had a smile on his face, happy to see her here. And even more happy to have her ask to sit next to him. But his smile flattered when he heard her call him so formally again. Averting his gaze, her said sulkily, "If you are going to keep calling me that, then no, Miss Sterling. It is not very professional to hang out with people at this time whom you are not on first name basis yet." And he huffed lightly. Dante did not one bit like when Dove called him Mr Lancaster. It felt as if they were back at square one.
But all he heard was Dove chuckling, before she came and sat beside him nonetheless, and said with a playful giggle, "I am sorry, Dante. I just sometimes like to call you by your surname. It sounds nice."
