Chapter 44: I CAN’T DO IT
"Did you also keep me in your tummy?" Mrs Sterling combed her daughter’s hairs with her hairs, and nodded, "Of course. Dove was there in my tummy for nine months. And mamma and papa were so eager to meet her. You are a part of mamma and papa, you are so special and sweet little girl, we were so eagerly waiting for you to come to us."
Dove’s eyes sparkled hearing that and he asked, "Really?" Her eyes then fell on the doll that she was holding, and said, "Then my baby is also a part of me?!" She asked blinking her eyes. Mrs Sterling looked at the doll and laughed, "Did you hold your baby in your tummy, darling?" And to that Dove nodded her head seriously, before she lifted the little top she was wearing, and put the doll against her baby tummy, and pulled the top down. "I kept my baby like this in my tummy for so long.."
At her innocence, Mrs Sterling couldn’t help but laugh, as she hugged her little daughter and kissed on her cheeks, "Oh my Love! Yes sure. And do you know, when you grow up and will be having your own baby, at that time, that will be even more special. Your baby will be a part of me, your papa, you and it’s papa." Mrs Sterling knew that her daughter will be understand fully what she said, but she just did.
Young Dove did not fully understand her mother’s words and emotions behind that at that time, but now Dove felt that. "Mamma. I miss you." She whispered under her breathe. Her eyes then fell on a magazine that was kept beside her and she picked it up and skimmed through it absent mindedly.
Meanwhile, Lisa who was patiently waiting for their turn, was now chatting to a woman beside her, "Yes, I am seven months expecting." The woman said with a happy smile. Her face flushed of bliss. "By the way, what are you girls here for?"
"Oh? Actually my friend has been having some issues with her menstrual cycle, so we are here regarding that." Lisa lied. It was not like she could tell the truth. They may judge them or else. And Lisa did not want to create any possibility for that now for her friend. And the consultant here, was a obstetrician and a gynae, so her excuse worked just fine.
But the next second, Dove stood up from her seat, and Lisa got worried up, "Huh? Dove, what wrong? Are you feeling sick again?"
Dove looked at Lisa with complicated emotions in her eyes, and she said softly, "Lisa, let’s go."
"Huh? But our turn is about to come." Lisa said with concern. To which Dove shook her head and pleaded, "Lisa please." Seeing her friend look at her with pleading eyes, Lisa did not say anything else. And they went out of the clinic.
Sitting in the car, Lisa asked Dove, "Dove? What’s wrong? Why did you come away from there?"
"Lisa, I don’t think I can do it. I- I don’t think I can." Dove shook her head.
"Can’t do what?"
