Chapter 163 - 163: Thanatos Vs T-103
As night began to fall, Team Echo Six arrived in the northern sector, where a brutal firefight was already underway between federal military forces and the monsters roaming the area. Gunfire echoed nonstop, mixing with inhuman roars and screams of pain.
"Hey! Are you with the Federation?" shouted one of the military operators, gripping a minigun as he sprayed suppressive fire at the approaching B.O.W.s.
brrrrrrrr…
"Yes. We're Echo Six—mercenaries hired by Sir Morgan," Jettingham replied firmly over the noise of battle.
"Then move it and help us! We can't hold them back much longer!" the soldier yelled, barely turning his head as another wave of creatures surged forward.
Jettingham nodded sharply and immediately issued orders to his team. "Alright, you heard him! Fan out and support the military—focus fire and don't let them break the line!"
Echo Six opened fire, rifles and shotguns lighting up the dark as they cut down the monsters closing in. Spent casings hit the ground as the battlefield grew louder and more chaotic.
"Jesus… what the hell happened here?" Morris muttered, the team's medic, as he took in the scene around him. Bodies of fallen soldiers and zombies were scattered everywhere, blood smeared across broken concrete and wrecked vehicles. Some wounded troops were convulsing on the ground—seconds later, a few of them began to turn, snarling and lunging at anyone nearby.
"This place already looks like a full-scale warzone," Morris added grimly, tightening his grip on his weapon as he prepared himself—not just to heal the living, but to put down those who were already lost.
Meanwhile, Dr. Muller watched the chaos unfold with keen interest. To him, this battlefield was nothing more than a perfect testing ground. His eyes gleamed behind his glasses as he observed the monsters clashing with the federal troops, data and possibilities already forming in his mind.
"Captain, do you require my assistance?" Muller spoke through the comms, his tone calm yet filled with confidence. "I can deploy Thanatos. This situation would be ideal for gathering live combat data. He can eliminate those creatures efficiently."
Jettingham hesitated for only a moment, weighing the risks. The fighting was getting worse by the minute, and their casualties were mounting. If Thanatos could truly turn the tide, it might save lives—at least on their side.
He finally nodded. "Very well, Professor. We'll take you up on that offer," Jettingham replied firmly. "Deploy your Tyrant and provide support. But keep it under control—we don't need another problem on top of this mess."
Muller's lips curved into a thin, satisfied smile. "Of course, Captain," he said. "You won't be disappointed."
Deep down, however, his thoughts were far from noble. This wasn't about saving soldiers or stabilizing the situation. This was about proving his creation's superiority—and watching Thanatos tear through the battlefield would give him exactly the data he desired.
And sure enough, not long after that, Muller opened his laptop and issued a direct command to Thanatos, ordering it to move to their position and eliminate the monsters overrunning the area.
Moments later, the ground shook.
Thanatos arrived by leaping down from a nearby high-rise, its massive body crashing into the street below as it slammed straight into a Licker that had been about to attack a military trooper from behind.
Bang…!
The impact was violent enough to send debris flying across the battlefield.
"What the hell is that?!" one of the soldiers shouted, immediately raising his weapon and aiming at the towering Tyrant.
Several other troops followed suit, their rifles snapping toward Thanatos in panic.
"Hold your fire!" Jettingham barked over the gunfire, stepping forward and raising his hand. "Do not shoot! That thing is a Federation asset. The monster is on our side."
The soldiers hesitated, fingers tight on their triggers as they stared at Thanatos. The Tyrant straightened itself slowly, its exposed heart pulsing as it turned its gaze toward the remaining monsters instead of the humans.
With a low, distorted roar, Thanatos charged forward once more—tearing into the creatures ahead of it with brutal efficiency.
The soldiers froze in place when they saw the Tyrant in action.
Thanatos moved through the battlefield like a living weapon—fast, brutal, and terrifyingly efficient. One by one, the B.O.W.s that had been overwhelming the federal troops were torn apart. Its massive claws crushed skulls, ripped torsos in half, and slammed mutated bodies into the ground with sickening force. Every movement was precise, almost calculated, as if the creature knew exactly where to strike to end the fight as quickly as possible.
For a brief moment, the pressure on the battlefield eased. Fewer monsters were advancing. Fewer screams echoed through the northern sector.
But then something went wrong.
Thanatos began to feed.
It grabbed the remains of fallen bio-weapons—lickers, hunters, twisted infected—and consumed them without hesitation. Flesh, bone, and mutated organs were devoured as the Tyrant absorbed everything with disturbing efficiency.
Cruch!...
Cruch!....
Cruch!....
Its exposed heart pulsed violently, glowing brighter with each bite, its muscles visibly tightening as if growing denser and stronger.
Dr. Muller's eyes widened in shock as he stared at his laptop screen.
"This… this wasn't in the parameters," he muttered under his breath, fingers rapidly typing as he tried to analyze the data. "It's adapting faster than predicted…"
The surrounding soldiers looked away in disgust. Some gagged, others clenched their rifles tightly, unsure whether they should be more afraid of the monsters—or the thing that was supposedly on their side.
"Jesus Christ…" one of the soldiers whispered.
"That thing isn't just killing them. It's evolving." Muller said while taking notes.
Sienna turned her head sharply, pressing a hand to her mouth as nausea hit her.
"God… I really didn't want to see this," she said, her voice strained. "This isn't combat support. This is a nightmare."
Thanatos finally straightened, its blood-soaked frame towering over the battlefield. It let out a low, distorted growl, eyes scanning the area—not just for enemies, but for anything left to consume.
For the first time, even the federal troops began to wonder whether unleashing Thanatos had truly saved them… or if they had just invited something far worse onto the battlefield.
Another Tyrant suddenly emerged from the opposite side of the battlefield.
A T-103, its massive frame crashing through debris as it charged straight toward Thanatos. There was no hesitation—this one had clearly been deployed by Umbrella as a countermeasure. The moment Thanatos detected the new presence, it turned, muscles tensing, and broke into a full sprint to meet it head-on.
BOOM!
Their fists collided mid-charge, the impact sending a shockwave through the street. Cracked asphalt and shattered concrete exploded outward as both Tyrants staggered back a step. The surrounding soldiers instinctively ducked, some nearly losing their footing from the sheer force of the clash.
The two monsters immediately engaged in close combat.
It was brutal. Raw. Animalistic.
The T-103 swung first, a heavy punch aimed at Thanatos' exposed chest, but Thanatos twisted its body just enough to lessen the blow, responding with a savage backhand that sent the T-103 crashing through a wrecked vehicle. Metal screamed as the car folded around the Tyrant's body.
The T-103 roared and charged again, its fists pounding like sledgehammers. Blow after blow landed, each hit powerful enough to kill a normal creature instantly. But Thanatos endured. Its body adapted in real time—muscle fibers tightening, bone density reinforcing—until it began overpowering its opponent.
Thanatos grabbed the T-103 by the arm and ripped it free at the shoulder.
The battlefield went silent for half a second.
Then the T-103 screamed.
Before it could recover, Thanatos drove its claws straight into the Tyrant's torso. SHNK. The blades pierced clean through, pinning the creature in place. With a violent pull—
SWISH.
The T-103 was torn apart, its massive body split open as it collapsed to the ground in pieces. Blackened blood spilled across the pavement.
Thanatos stood over the remains, chest heaving.
Without hesitation, it began to consume the fallen Tyrant—tearing into the biological weapon as if it were nothing more than prey. Bones cracked. Flesh vanished. The sound alone made several soldiers turn away in disgust.
"Jesus Christ…" one of the military operators muttered, barely holding back his stomach.
Sienna swallowed hard, her face pale as she kept the camera rolling despite her shaking hands. "That thing isn't just killing them," she said quietly. "It's… absorbing them."
Nearby, Dr. Muller stared at his monitor in stunned silence—then slowly, a wide, unhinged smile spread across his face.
"Magnificent…" he whispered. "It's exceeding all parameters."
Thanatos straightened, its body visibly larger, more defined than before. Whatever it had consumed was now part of it.
...
Meanwhile, Morgan, who was watching everything through the live feed transmitted by Echo Six, leaned back slightly as the footage played out on multiple monitors. The image of Thanatos tearing through bio-weapons with ruthless efficiency held his full attention. The Tyrant moved with terrifying precision—brutal, relentless, and far more controlled than most B.O.W.s Umbrella had ever deployed.
Morgan's lips slowly curled into a thin, satisfied smile.
"So this is Dr. Muller's masterpiece…" he muttered under his breath.
From the screen, Thanatos crushed a Licker's skull with one hand before impaling another creature through the torso, lifting it off the ground like it weighed nothing. The surrounding monsters didn't stand a chance. Even seasoned military units struggled to keep up with its pace.
Morgan folded his hands, eyes gleaming with interest.
"Efficient. Adaptable. And terrifying," he said calmly.
The potential was obvious. A weapon like this didn't just change the battlefield—it controlled it. If handled correctly, Thanatos could become leverage. Political leverage. Military leverage. Or something far more dangerous.
....
Meanwhile, Allen was back in his apartment, doing what he did best when things momentarily slowed down—lazing around while watching the news. The television showed a live broadcast from City Hall, where large groups of civilians had been gathered and were being prepared for evacuation to a safer zone outside Raccoon City. Armed police and medical personnel stood on high alert, forming barricades while helicopters hovered overhead.
Despite the obvious danger, several civilians were still arguing loudly. Some protested, refusing to leave their homes behind. Others shouted accusations at the authorities, claiming the situation was being exaggerated, that there were no "monsters," only riots and media lies. Their denial bordered on madness.
Allen leaned back against the couch, arms crossed, watching with a flat expression.
"Unbelievable," he muttered. "These people really don't get it."
As if on cue, the situation on-screen took a sudden turn.
One of the civilians in the crowd suddenly staggered, clutching his chest before collapsing to the ground. His body convulsed violently, drawing screams from those nearby. Medics rushed in immediately, trying to restrain him and administer aid. The reporter's voice wavered as the camera zoomed in, the tension thick in the air.
Then it happened.
The man's convulsions stopped abruptly. His head snapped up, eyes glassy and unfocused. With a feral snarl, he lunged forward and sank his teeth into one of the medics' necks. Blood sprayed across the pavement. Panic erupted instantly.
"Get back! Get back!" someone screamed.
The camera shook violently as people ran in every direction. Another infected civilian rose from the crowd and attacked a nearby cameraman from behind, dragging him down while the reporter screamed in horror before the feed cut to static.
Allen stared at the blank screen for a moment.
"…Seriously," he sighed, rubbing his temple. "Are these people actually suicidal?"
With a click of the remote, he changed the channel, completely uninterested in watching the chaos unfold any further.
