Chapter 174: Unexpected Help
Rory looked up. Her insides were trembling out of fear and her brain was not operating at its full capacity. It was hard.
"Dignity," She said looking up. She wanted his gun. But she cannot tell him that. Her lips curled as she stared him in the eye.
The eyes are the windows to the soul. And there is something different in the eyes of a psychopath. She was stupid to not see it before. The blank stare Jake was donning was eerily similar to the look she saw on Lennon.
As she smirked, maybe her brain thought that she had the upper hand and her heartbeat slowed down.
Jake chuckled. It was just a short chuckle that sounded like someone stirring an iron pot with a metal spatula. He stared down at her.
Rory didn’t know what he was thinking. But he removed his coat and placed it on her shoulder.
Rory furrowed her brows. She wondered if it was deliberate that jake forgot about the gun he had in his coat.
"Thanks," she smiled and pulled the coat closer. If it was any other time, she wouldn’t have accepted the coat of another man, but, hey, it’s like what they say... Don’t look a gift horse in the mouth.
She slowly took some steps back and Jake, still wearing a smirk walked to the basement door. Rory immediately pushed her arms into the sleeves of the coat. She didn’t want to be half-naked in front of Lennon. And her hand reached for the gun.
For a moment, she did fear that the gun might not have been loaded. It could also be a toy gun, but she knew weapons. She knew that it was not. So, Jake’s readiness in handing over the gun to her made her skeptical.
But as she pulled out the gun, she felt the weight. A short sigh escaped her mouth as she could say that it was loaded. Her heart skipped a beat as she wondered what game Jake is playing. And she remembered the odd conversation she had with him on her way here in the flight.
She waited for Jake to open the door. He was not hurried and that intensified her doubt. She took several steps back just in case. She didn’t know if Lennon is having any weapon.
