Chapter 109: In the Peony Bedroom
Marcus knew at his age, the best offer he could get is a squire to a Knight, and not a Knight himself. And that too with a fancy name like a Paladin. He was surprised the one he was waiting for, gives him this honor without any reservation.
There should be more to it. Otherwise, there is no reason for someone so powerful to accept a novice like him as a Paladin. She might want to use him and she might end up hurting him to get what she wants.
But this is the first time he is getting without his father’s interference, just for who he is. It made him happy.
He bowed his head with reverence. "Thank you, Your Highness!" his voice couldn’t hide his joy.
"Yes, that’s great," Alexandra stretched herself. "I got myself a personal knight... so I won’t need Julius to watch over me anymore..." she looked at Maximus and he gritted his teeth.
«Was this her plan all along? Or... There might be more to it... But why?»
Maximus looked at her keenly to see if she is willing to talk to him about it, but she was keen on other things as it appeared. She had left him alone on the watchtower and wrapping her hand around that boy’s shoulders, she was walking down the circular stairs.
«What happened to our exploration?»
Suddenly Maximus had one more reason to hate Marcus. He sprinted on the stairs, grabbed her hand that was around Marcus’ shoulder, picked her up, and rushed to the Peony bedroom.
They have no time to waste.
"Marcus, oversee the preparation of food for me," Alexandra said burying her face in his shoulder.
She understood why Maximus brought her here. It was not for talking about his childhood. It was for consummating their marriage. And thinking about that, and with certain images she once saw on a book popping in her brain, she started feeling shy. And she remembered Maximus’ behavior with her ever since they got bound by the Aion Stone.
