Chapter 376: Dejection
Xing spent the next few days peacefully in her Manor and as usual visited her father every other day. She asked Seiren to conduct investigation on the Fire Kingdom and find out how much they are involved in the new drug that has appeared in their Eastern Borders. She sent a letter to Ayane to know how much they have investigated about that drug too.
Xing ignored the letters the Emperor sent on behalf of Weiye and went on finishing the jade hairpin she was making. The two years she was wandering in the Sky Kingdom, she spent a lot of time in carriage rides and as she was bored and missed Chenglei a lot, she used her jade carving skills she learnt from Old Tong. She wanted to make something for Chenglei when she meets him back and since she had no skills in cooking, embroidery or painting, she decided to test her skills with jade carving.
It took her two years to carve a perfect hairpin that had a wolf in the head. She used the best quality white jade she could find and it had a small green vein which she perfectly aligned to be the eyes.
Xing looked at the finished hairpin that looked pretty awesome... The snowy white wolfhead with the green eyes really seemed a perfect symbolism of Chenglei. She did make it thinking about him afterall. She decided to gift that for him for his birthday in a month.
She safely kept the hairpin in her drawer and her father’s arrival was announced. Her father rarely visited her and Xing was pleasantly surprised as she greeted her father.
AoTian was still grieving for Xu mama and Xing told him her speculation that Xu Mama might have found out what Takano was upto and maybe that’s why she was driven out and her brother sent someone to kill her just to be safe.
AoTian was smart too and he could understand what Xing meant and he seemed like he wanted to tell her something too.
"The Empress is visiting me daily begging me to ask you to have tea with her. She brings some eatables everytime she comes and I’ve been avoiding eating it till now", he said after she forced him to tell.
Xing let out a snort. "Is she threatening me with you?", she rubbed her temples.
The nerves on her to force me using my father! Is that woman telling me that she’d hurt my father if I don’t comply with her? She is blaming me for her father’s death and so she threatens to hurt my father? Surely, father, as the Prime Minister can refuse the Empress only to an extent. With the Emperor by her side, she cannot be ignored for long.
"Tell her I’ll meet her day after tomorrow", Xing told her father as her eyes shone with confidence.
I’ve been refusing to sit with her because I am irked by her and she thought I am scared of her and decided to threaten me? Chu Weiye... Chu Weiye... What do you want from me?
