Chapter 371: Bai Li’s Visit
Xing took a quick bath and after she finished getting dressed, she felt the usual presence around,
"Bai Li", she smiled at him and he in his dark robes looked dapper as usual and his red marble eyes held a deep contemplative look. He looked calmer than the last time she saw him and he looked a bit apologetic looking at her.
"Your hair is still wet", he pushed a chair for her to sit. "You cannot be too careless with your health like before", he started drying her hair. Somehow Xing felt like there is more to that statement.
"I can do it myself, you are no longer my maid", Xing tried to get the towel back but Bai Li persisted and he was as gentle as always.
"Is there something wrong with Fei Lian? And Mazu?", she asked with her head bowed and playing with her fingers. She could not feel them around her and she partly missed them.
"They...", Bai Li paused for a moment, "You don’t want to take your role as the Prince of Heavens, do you?", he deflected not wanting to answer her question.
"No", Xing answered without much thoughts. She was sure about it.
"Then you must live without considering them. If you are a human, they are gods and you cannot act... Friendly with them...", Bai Li had a deep contemplative voice and for Xing, it seemed like he was choosing his words with her.
"Then the trials?", She asked what was important to her, "Is it over?"
"No, you are only halfway through... That’s why... Don’t depend on Fei Lian anymore or even Mazu. In the end, they belong in a different realm than you and they have to follow different sets of rules... It is entirely opposite from my realm’s rules. They are weird! ", Bai Li paused for a while and then continued to dry her hair.
Xing silently contemplated what Bai Li is implying and it seemed like he is not being candid with her. She used to not care about the gods before but these days she found herself accustomed to their presence in her life and she also really got used to the comforts provided by them and it never is good. But what does he means by halfway through? The trials aren’t over yet? How long will it go on?
And what did he mean by saying Fei Lian have to follow different sets of rules?
