My Life As The First S-Class Guide

Chapter 72: A DATE?

"YOUR room is very clean, Yejun-ah," Wonhee commented while sitting on the carpeted floor of Yejun’s bedroom and looking around. "Did you still have the wits to clean up the entire place whenever you were here?"

She had always been soft-spoken and couldn’t increase her voice unless she screamed.

Hence, she got worried a bit that Yejun might have not heard her.

Fortunately, it wasn’t the case.

"Luckily, the Static gets less noisy when I’m here," Yejun, who was still in the secret room behind his walk-in closet, said in a loud voice. He wasn’t screaming. But he had to increase the volume of his voice for her to hear him. "Aside from cleaning the mansion, I also do my laundry and cook if I’m stable enough. Admittedly, the Guides APA sent to me helped a bit."

"I’m glad to hear that," she said, then she knitted her eyebrows. "But where does this place get its water and electricity supply?"

Surprisingly enough, despite the mansion looking like it came out of fantasy romance comics, the interior of the annex building where Yejun resided was pretty modern. It had appliances that needed a power supply to work.

Especially the kitchen because of all the modern equipment installed there.

[And Yejun has a gaming room, too.]

"I actually don’t know," Yejun said. "When I brought all my stuff from my old apartment here, I asked the System to provide water and electricity supply. I had to raid ten S-Grade Cracks all by myself in return, though."

[S-Grade Cracks rarely appear nowadays.]

But she remembered there was a time when their country was frequented by such dangerous dungeons a few years ago.

Also...

"I remember you were always on the evening news before for raiding S-Grade Cracks on your own ILLEGALLY," Wonhee said, sighing. "We’re the same age, so you were only eighteen or nineteen years old around that time."

"Well, it was fun, so I didn’t really mind."

Yejun was known as the strongest S-Class Hunter in Korea during his prime.

Hence, most people would often forget that Yejun was still a child when the Outbreak happened. He was only sixteen back then, and yet he had become the country’s pillar of support along with the other members of the Big 4.

[They never stopped fighting monsters and raiding dungeons until more Hunters awakened. Only then did the country finally stabilize.]

No wonder many people worshipped the Big 4.

"Why did you suddenly become quiet?" Yejun asked when he came out of the walk-in closet while holding a pretty big box. "Are you sleepy? Hungry?"

"I just realized that we’re the same age but lived completely different lives when the Outbreak began," Wonhee said in a sad voice. "While you were risking your life to protect our country, I was living well under my siblings’ protection."

"Nah, I only did it because it was fun fighting monsters and not because I wanted to save the country," he said casually while sitting on the floor, then he placed the box between them. "And thank you for being safe all these years."

She would have felt offended had Yejun said that in a sarcastic or teasing tone.

But no– he was being sincere.

"I know you feel guilty for living well during the time our country was going through hell," Yejun said in a serious tone. "But I’m still glad that you survived because I got to meet you today. I mean it."

Wonhee was tempted to ask if it was because of the System’s rewards, but she didn’t want to give herself another disappointment. Hence, she just said something else. "I will work hard to guide you and the others to make it up for the years I spent living well."

"Luck is also a skill, Wonhee-ya. It wasn’t your fault that you were born lucky."

"I guess it will take some time before I get rid of this guilt."

"I’ll take care of that for you," Yejun said confidently. "I’m a bad person, so it’s my job to corrupt a pure soul like you. But don’t worry." He raised his hand, showing his index finger and thumb barely touching. "I’ll only corrupt you this much."

Wonhee covered her ears with her hands. "Stop being a bad influence, Yejun-ah."

IMAGINE spending your morning having a sumptuous breakfast in the most expensive restaurant in the country with the most handsome Hunter in Korea.

Yool fucking hated his life.

The 10th Floor of the Nom Nom Restaurant was apparently reserved only for the members of the Big 4 and their +1.

And he could see why it was a coveted place.

First, the view was nice.

Second, the food was fucking amazing.

The only thing Yool could complain about was his "date."

"How’s the food, Yool-ssi?" Song Moonho asked while smiling "sweetly" at him. "If there’s something else you’d like to eat, don’t hesitate to tell me. I’m sure Chef Ryung can accommodate our requests."

Tsk.

Song Moonho looked so dashing in his three-piece crisp suit, as usual.

Yool probably looked like a potato, especially since his outfit was too casual for the fancy restaurant: a black hoodie, baggy pants, and white sneakers.

He didn’t even wash his hair.

[That’s why I also wore a beanie for today.]

He only washed his face because Song Moonho didn’t deserve his efforts.

"Stop with the silly small talk," Yool said lazily after stuffing his face with some good food. He didn’t know what it was called, but it tasted great. "How did you know I’m staying with Chef Ryung? Are you stalking me?"

"I just happen to have a very good informant," Song Moonho said. "Yool-ssi, if you have nowhere else to go to, then why don’t you just live with me? I have a mansion, a villa, a penthouse, and a hotel. Just choose where you want to stay."

"Why is everyone treating me like I’m homeless?" Yool complained while stabbing the meat on his plate with a fork. "First, Graham. And now, you."

"Did Graham ask you to live with him?"

"Yes, and it’s because Graham is afraid that you’ll harass me. Had I known you would do exactly what he feared you would– so early in the morning, at that– then I would have moved in with him right away."

"Yool-ssi, have some conscience. Why would you turn yourself into a home-wrecker when you can easily catch any bachelor with that face?"

"What?"

Song Moonho smiled as if he was trying to flirt with Yool. "I’m saying Yool-ssi is too pretty just to be Graham’s side piece."

"What a fucking liar," Yool said, shaking his head. "I didn’t even wash my hair today."

"Ah. Is that why you’re wearing a beanie, even though it isn’t your style?"

"How did you even know wearing a beanie wasn’t my style?"

"Let’s just say when someone catches my attention, I feel the need to know everything about them."

"Fucking stalker," Yool complained, stabbing the marble potato on his plate this time. "What do you want from me?"

"Ahn Kisoo lost his abilities as a Guide after getting hit by a strange bullet."

Yool dropped the knife in his hand, shocked by what he heard. "What...?"

Song Moonho calmly sliced the meat on his plate while explaining. "The Summer Guild and the National Guide Center are keeping it a secret from APA. But my informant is that good. Anyways, I thought I should share that piece of information with you, Yool-ssi."

Fuck.

Yool remembered that the original novel’s main conflict was when Ahn Kisoo lost his abilities as a Guide because of a strange bullet.

And after Ahn Kisoo lost his power...

[The villain entered the scene!]

And that pyscho...

[He targets high-ranking Guides!]

Dammit!

Yool was suddenly worried about Wonhee.

[Wony is an S-Class Guide, so the psycho would definitely target her as soon as the world finds out about my friend’s rank!]

Shit!

The main problems were happening faster in reality than it did in the novel.

[I’ve been complacent because I thought the main problems would start next year.]

Because, based on what Yool remembered, shit started to happen a year after Wonhee and Lee Seodam broke up.

[I remember because in the novel, Yeon Soobin disappeared around that time.]

And when Yeon Soobin returned to the story, it was hinted that he had been recruited by the enemies to avenge Wonhee.

Tsk.

[I’ve been careless...]

Yool’s thought process was interrupted when Song Moonho suddenly chuckled. "What?"

Song Moonho rested his chin on his palm while looking at Yool with sparkling eyes. "I knew Miss Chu lied to me," he said. "The System didn’t tell her anything about my brother’s ability– it was you, Gong Yool-ssi. You were the one who knows things you shouldn’t know."

[Fuck this quick-witted bastard.]

"Judging by your reaction just now, I believe you know what I’m talking about, Yool-ssi."

[Fuck me and my inability to hide my expression when I’m shocked.]

"I don’t know anything, Moonho-ssi."

Song Moonho scoffed. "Don’t lie to me now, Yool-ssi."

"No, I’m serious," Yool said calmly. "I really don’t know anything useful this time."

[Because I didn’t get to read the next volume of the novel!]

"WHY DO we have to return right away when I haven’t shown you the room full of gold yet?"

"Because I left my phone here," Wonhee said while sitting on her bed and removing the charger from her phone. "Soobin Oppa and Semi Unnie will get worried if I don’t reply or call them back an hour after they sent me a message."

Her older siblings knew that Wonhee couldn’t always answer their calls due to the nature of her work.

Hence, they would just send her a message.

"Look," Wonhee said, showing Yejun her phone. "We just got out in time. Oppa and Unnie are already worried because I didn’t reply to their good morning text right away."

Yejun, who was sulking while leaning against the doorframe and hugging the box of yarns that he brought out from his Inventory, knitted his eyebrows. "Do you have a sibling named ’Mr. Kim Gwang-su?’"

Oh.

Wonhee quickly checked her phone and belatedly saw that she missed Mr. Kim’s call. "Mr. Kim Gwang-su is the one in charge of looking after my properties..."

She trailed off after reading Mr. Kim’s messages, then she sighed.

"Is there a problem?" Yejun asked. "I can freeze that person to death if you want me to, Wonhee-ya."

"Mr. Kim isn’t the problem."

"Then who?"

Wonhee fell silent for a moment before she explained. "When Seodam Oppa’s family was struggling because Cracks kept on bursting around their old neighborhood, I helped them in secret. I bought a house in a relatively safe village and rented it out to them."

"Without them knowing?"

She nodded. "I asked Mr. Kim to represent me, so he acted like the landlord. Seodam Oppa and his family thought Mr. Kim was their landlord all this time."

"Okay, so what’s the problem?"

"I asked Mr. Kim to inform Seodam Oppa’s family that I want them out of my property once their lease ends next month," she explained. "But, apparently, Lee Seodam’s mother refuses to leave until she talks to the ’real’ landlord."

Yejun scoffed. "Should I drag that ahjumma1 out of your house for you?"

"You’re being mean again, Yejun-ah."

"I already told you, Wonhee-ya– I’ll be the bad guy for you."

Pfft.

Hearing Yejun say that made Wonhee feel better because she knew that he was being serious.

[I’m glad that he’s on my side, even if it’s just for the System’s rewards.]

"Yejun-ah."

"Yeah?"

"Are you not going to tease me or call me stupid for buying a house for Seodam Oppa and his family?"

"Nah, I get you."

"You do?"

Yejun tilted his head to one side, then he smirked a little before he spoke. "Right now, I can give you the world even if you’re not asking for it, Wonhee-ya. That’s what it means to like someone, right?"

Oh.

Wonhee almost drank kimchi soup again.

Fortunately, she already knew that Yejun was only doing this to gain her favor.

[I need to gain his favor as well for my side quest, so might as well go along with it.]

"Yejun-ah, I don’t need the world. But can I ask for a small favor?"

"Of course."

"I want to meet Seodam Oppa’s mother and end things with their family, once and for all," Wonhee said determinedly. "Please go with me."

"Sure," Yejun said, nodding. "I’m good at scaring people."

"No, Yejun-ah, no..."
