Chapter 46: Tense

After the grand king left, I let out a relieved sigh. After a few seconds, I asked myself what I was relieved about because now that I’d have to be reporting to him while also having the Prince’s butler watching me and giving me near impossible tasks, it was clear as day that my life had just gotten much more worse than it previously was.
The two messengers were still present even after the grand king left. Jared and Nikolai. I remembered their names from the last time, and I remember begging them desperately to not throw me to the beast that night, but they did just that, showing how cruel they both were. I hated them so much, they were the ones who bought me from my uncle like a fucking object, they’re the reason my entire life got ruined, and of opportuned, I’d make life a living hell for the two of them.
"I can’t believe you’re alive." Nikolai finally said, breaking the silence. I resisted the urge to roll my eyes, feeling beyond irritated. I wanted to snap at Nikolai right now, to demand that he don’t question me, but of course I was still the weak one in this situation and would still have to answer to him.
"Did you really not know how you survived?" He continued and I shook my head. His partner, Jared who is the silent and meaner one, scoffed at that moment.
"It doesn’t matter since he’d die soon anyway. Someone as pretty as him can’t survive in a place like this palace where so many hungry men would undoubtedly sink their claws into him."
I shuddered at those words, my mind traveling to what went down in Prince Vlad’s bedroom about an hour ago. I still felt so disgusted with myself and the fact that he forced me to swallow his essence up.
"Anyways, for your own good, kid, do not step out of line. As you already figured out, the grand king is very cruel. He can snap your throat right now if he deems you useless to him, which is why you must always make sure that he’s still seeing you as something useful." Jared said this time, surprising me and even a surprised looking Nikolai.
"Is that why you two always do whatever he asks you to and also say whatever you believe he’d want to hear, because you also want to always appear useful to him?"
I asked those words before I could stop myself. I slapped a hand over my mouth, realizing that I might have over spoken. Jared looked furious even though half of his Face is presently covered by a nose mask, he seems to always hand his face covered at all times.
