Chapter 874 Jealous
Then, Xavier leaned in close to Hera’s ear, his breath warm and unsteady. "Baby, should we go back and finish this in bed?" he whispered, his voice low and laced with desire. He wasn’t just teasing her; this was also a calculated move to provoke Alexandre.
Xavier wanted to make it clear just how intimate things could get between him and Hera, and if Alexandre thought he could pursue her, this level of closeness would be the bare minimum. And it could go even further behind closed doors.
Xavier’s restraint was already wearing thin. Just a few more moments of this, and he wasn’t sure he’d be able to hold back. His body was burning with need, and the only thing on his mind now was getting Hera alone, fast.
But since Xavier was doing all this right in front of Alexandre, who wasn’t part of her circle of "boyfriends," Hera felt utterly mortified. She didn’t have the face to let someone else witness such an intimate moment, especially not in public.
Acting on impulse, she discreetly pinched the sensitive skin of Xavier’s inner thigh, making him flinch in pain. The sharp sting snapped him out of his lustful haze, and he quickly realized he had gone too far. He had pushed Hera into an uncomfortable position just to provoke Alexandre. Regret came too late, though; he was already dealing with the consequence.
Trying his best to mask the pain, Xavier kept a straight face, but Alexandre suddenly burst into laughter, catching everyone at the table off guard. No one could quite figure out why Alexandre was laughing so heartily or why Xavier looked like he had swallowed a fly while trying to act composed.
As for Hera, caught in the middle of it all, she could only lower her head to hide her flushed face. She had nearly lost herself to Xavier’s charm, forgetting entirely where they were. And honestly?
She couldn’t deny that she craved being close to him; being wanted by her man was perfectly natural. But not like this. Not in front of someone else. It wasn’t about shielding Alexandre’s feelings, but about preserving her own dignity and Xavier’s pride.
She hadn’t realized Xavier could be this childish at times, but then again, they had all grown so comfortable with her that pretense was no longer necessary.
The closeness they shared had dissolved many boundaries, and perhaps that comfort gave Xavier the freedom to reveal this more mischievous side of himself. Maybe it was also his way of warning Alexandre off, after all, any sane man would hesitate to share the woman he loves.
But then again, maybe Alexandre wasn’t just any man. Maybe he wasn’t entirely sane either. Or maybe, like the rest of them, he was simply one of those rare men willing to do anything for love.
