Dave didn’t give Alice a chance to respond and pressed on.
"You see, I don’t usually go looking for trouble, but I’m never afraid of it. If people want to call me ungentlemanly for putting a woman in her place, so be it—because I’m only doing this to protect my woman. And don’t think I’m blind or deaf—I saw and heard everything."
His voice turned sharper as he continued, "You called us old businessmen and questioned why she was coming upstairs. So what if she does? Are you just jealous because she can go up there with ease while you can’t without the proper status?"
Dave made sure to tear down every excuse, every flimsy defense Alice might use to claim this was all a misunderstanding.
