Every head snapped toward the source of the outburst, only to see Dave, Leo, Luke, Rafael, and Zhane descending from the second floor. Their expressions were thunderous, their scowls so dark and ominous they carried the weight of cast iron.
Hera’s words had been harsh, but they paled in comparison to Dave’s biting remarks. His insults were razor-sharp, striking without hesitation or concern for anyone’s feelings. Alice’s eyes instantly turned red—Dave never held back, and he certainly wasn’t about to start now.
No one even noticed when Dave and the others arrived or how long they had been listening. After all, no one had stood up for Hera—except Hera herself. But in hindsight, that was a far better outcome than them joining Alice’s bandwagon to humiliate her.
Now, a chilling realization settled over everyone.
They had narrowly escaped disaster. Had they followed Alice’s lead, tossing out casual, biting remarks at Hera, they might not have even realized how they sealed their fate.
Because whether Dave and the others had been listening from the very beginning or only caught part of it, one thing was clear—they were all absolutely livid at Alice.
But they weren’t entirely wrong. The moment Hera stepped into the banquet hall, Leo was the first to notice her from the second floor. A smile crossed his lips, and he instinctively stood, ready to go to her.
However, seeing her confidently exchanging pleasantries and business cards with the other businessmen—receiving their respect—he and the others decided there was no need to step in.
They wanted Hera to spread her wings, to fly wherever she desired, knowing they would always support her from behind.
And so, since she was handling herself well, they chose to simply watch from above. Hidden behind the one-way glass, they observed everything happening downstairs while remaining unseen by those below.
The moment Hera took a step toward the staircase, Leo, Luke, Dave, Zhane, and Rafael had already begun making their way out of the room on the second floor.
