Chapter 101 Let Me Be In Your Life
Nicole sat on the edge of the hospital bed, gently rocking the baby in her arms. Jasmine was seemingly lost in thoughts.
"I know what Kingsley will do once he finds out," Jasmine said quietly.
Nicole glanced at her. "Do what?"
"He’ll take her away from me," Jasmine replied, her voice barely above a whisper. "He’ll think I kept her from him. And with the way things are between us... with the divorce and everything... I just know he’ll try to take her."
Nicole sighed and looked down at the baby. "You think Kingsley wants to take a newborn baby and raise her alone? Come on, Jasmine."
Jasmine turned her face to Nicole. "You don’t get it. He’s cold. He’s angry with me. And he has every right to be."
Nicole shook her head slowly. "No. I don’t like him, you know that. But I also know how much he liked you. He still does. You should’ve seen him throwing up in the bathroom like a man who’s never seen pain before."
Jasmine’s eyes flickered with confusion. "He was throwing up?"
"Like crazy. He was crying too, Jasmine. Not like full-blown sobbing, but he looked wrecked. He was scared for you."
Jasmine looked away again. "Still doesn’t mean he won’t try to take her. You don’t know what he’s capable of when he’s hurt."
Nicole leaned closer, her voice turned more serious. "You know what would hurt him the most? Being shut out. You put his name on the certificate and not tell him... that’s what cuts deep. But I don’t think he’s the kind of man who’ll snatch a baby and disappear."
