Pregnant During An Apocalypse [BL]

Chapter 334 - 335 - Digging a tunnel under

Yunfeng frowned as he stared at the walls surrounding the compound. Right now, he could easily use his powers to disable the electricity running through the gates and fences, but they would need the defensive system later. He didn’t want to damage the walls or destroy the electrical fence surrounding the compound when there was still a chance they could restore the base and use all of its defenses again.

The safest option would be to fly over the walls.

Unfortunately, with Muchen pregnant, he couldn’t simply carry people over with him. He glanced at his lover before taking his hand and giving it a firm squeeze.

"Muchen, you stay back. Zei, Jai, and I will go in first. We’ll take out the most dangerous ones and open the doors from inside. Once the way is clear, everyone else can come in and help deal with the remaining zombies from outside."

Muchen immediately frowned.

"Why do you keep treating me like I’m disabled? I can still use my powers."

Yunfeng gave him a soft smile before leaning down and kissing his cheek.

"Then who is going to protect my mom and the others? Hmm?"

Muchen’s glare immediately softened under the gentle kiss. He looked away with a small huff.

"Fine... but you need someone watching from above."

"Grandpa can do that. You just stay safe with the others."

Yunfeng then glanced toward the little girl who had been quietly following them around.

Yuki really was like a quiet little kitten. She rarely spoke unless someone addressed her directly, and most of the time, she was perfectly content playing with her little monkey. Even now, the tiny creature was clinging close to her as she watched everyone prepare.

"Yuki."

The little girl looked up at him with a bright smile.

"I want you to stay ready. If anyone gets hurt, Muchen will bring you inside. You can heal them with your powers, okay?"

"Okay-dokey!"

Yuki gave him an enthusiastic thumbs-up.

"Yunfeng..."

Jinju walked over, her expression filled with concern. She glanced toward the enormous compound before looking back at her son.

"Maybe Shinju is right. This doesn’t sound safe at all. Please, there are so many people inside. The three of you won’t be able to handle all of them."

"Trust me, Mom."

Yunfeng gently pulled her into a brief hug.

"We can handle it. Just stay close to Muchen and Hana."

He released her and turned toward his sister, who was silently frowning as she stared at the compound.

"Hana, don’t hesitate to use your powers, okay? I’m leaving you in charge."

"Hey!" Muchen immediately turned toward him. "I thought I was in charge of their safety."

"You are, my dear, but..." Yunfeng hesitated.

He struggled to find the right words without making Muchen angry. The truth was that Muchen’s powers had become increasingly unstable as his pregnancy progressed. He tired more easily now, and Yunfeng had already noticed how quickly Muchen pushed himself whenever someone else was in danger. If he left Muchen in charge, there was no doubt that his lover would throw himself into the middle of the danger without thinking twice.

Yunfeng absolutely did not want that.

Muchen seemed to understand exactly what he was thinking from the look on his face. He glared at him for a moment before sighing.

"You... you come out of there safely first. Then we’ll talk about this."

Grumbling under his breath, Muchen walked away from him and returned to Jinju and Hana.

Yunfeng sighed before turning toward Shao, who was still standing close beside Jai.

"Get a weapon. We need to go."

Shao immediately nodded.

Jai quickly found a weapon from his father’s supplies and checked it before joining them. Yunfeng looked toward the massive gates one last time, his expression becoming serious.

Beside him, Jai and Zei prepared themselves as well.

The three of them then started walking toward the gates, ready to enter the infested compound first.

The three of them stopped a few meters from the compound gates. The massive metal gates stood completely shut, the surface streaked with dried blood and grime. Beyond them, the compound was strangely quiet. Not peaceful—just quiet in the way a place became when too many dead things were waiting inside.

Zei tilted his head, studying the gate. "So... how are we getting in?"

Jai immediately added. "Dad said the fence is connected to the solar system. If we destroy it, we lose the defense system."

"Exactly."

Zei scratched his cheek. "Then we climb?"

Yunfeng glanced at him.

"Never mind."

Yunfeng’s eyes narrowed as he studied the structure.

Then he looked toward the ground.

"Jai."

"Hmm?"

"Can you move the soil beneath the wall without bringing the wall down?"

Jai’s expression immediately brightened. "Of course."

Zei blinked. "Wait. Are you planning to dig under it?"

"yeah." Yunfeng pointed toward the base of the wall. "We’re going to make a tunnel."

Jai stared at him for a moment before grinning. "Oh."

Zei’s eyes widened. "Oh!"

Jai stepped forward, crouched and placed both hands against the ground. His expression immediately became focused as his power spread beneath them.

The earth trembled.

At first, nothing seemed to happen. Then the soil beneath the wall began shifting, slowly sinking and moving aside as if an invisible hand were scooping it away. Jai carefully controlled the earth, creating a narrow passage underneath the wall without disturbing its foundation.

The ground opened into a dark tunnel.

Zei leaned forward and peered inside. "You sure you won’t burry us under..."

Jai proudly brushed his hands together. "I made the soil firmer around the walls. It’s stable enough to go in."

Yunfeng looked at the tunnel. "Make it wider."

Jai frowned. "How wide?"

"Wide enough for everyone to pass through comfortably."

Jai expanded the tunnel until it was large enough for several people to walk through side by side. He also pushed the removed earth farther away instead of piling it around the entrance, leaving as little evidence as possible that anyone had entered beneath the wall.

Yunfeng crouched and looked through the tunnel.

There was no immediate movement on the other side.

"Grandpa."

Everyone turned toward Kailun.

The old man was sitting in one of the vehicles with his eyes closed. His body remained completely still, but after a few seconds, his astral form appeared beside them.

"I’ll check."

His translucent figure floated toward the tunnel and disappeared inside.

Everyone waited.

A moment later, his voice came from the other side.

"Clear."

Yunfeng nodded.

"Good."

He turned toward Jai and Zei. "Let’s go."

The three entered first.

The tunnel was dark, but Yunfeng didn’t need light. His enhanced senses immediately picked up the faint movement beyond the wall. Jai followed close behind, while Zei kept glancing over his shoulder as though expecting a zombie to crawl into the tunnel behind them.

When they emerged on the other side, Yunfeng immediately looked around.

They were inside the compound.

And the moment he saw it, his expression changed.

The streets were littered with abandoned vehicles. Some had crashed into walls while others simply sat in the middle of the road, their doors hanging open. Blood had dried across the pavement. Several houses had broken windows, and some front doors had been ripped completely off their hinges.
