My Ex-Husband Begged Me to Take Him Back

Chapter 286: Dr. Mathew’s confession

Mathew shook his head, his mind scrambling to make sense of the situation. His wrists ached from the tight bindings. "No, I don’t understand. I have no enmity with you." He paused as he ran his mind to find a plausible reason for Nicholas kidnapping him. "Are you upset because I left all of a sudden?"

He assumed Nicholas was upset with him because he had left without informing him. After all, he had been treating him for so long.

Mathew swallowed hard, forcing himself to continue. "Look, if this is about me leaving suddenly, I—I can explain. I had my reasons. But I didn’t think you’d take it this personally."

His voice carried a mix of nervousness and confusion. Nicholas remained silent, his cold gaze locked onto Mathew. The stillness in the room was suffocating.

"I even arranged for Dr. Ross to take over your case," Mathew went on. "He is highly competent, and I know you’re in good hands. You have a donor, and the surgery is happening soon. So why... why did you bring me here?"

"I’m quite satisfied with Dr. Ross and I’ve no doubt about his capability," Nicholas countered. "But I brought you here for a different purpose. I need answers."

"What answers?" Mathew asked, bewildered.

"You conspired with Lydia to kill Thomas Williams," Nicholas stated seriously. "Do you think you can escape with it? You, as a doctor, should save lives. But you disregarded your ethics and tried to kill him. You should be punished."

Mathew’s face paled, his body going rigid. His mind reeled in shock, struggling to process the accusation. He hadn’t expected Nicholas to investigate him. And why would he do that? What connection did he have with the Williams?
