My Ex-Husband Begged Me to Take Him Back

Chapter 166: She is determined to bring us down.

Lilianna’s eyes lit up with quiet pride. "The dean of City Hospital is a close friend of Henry’s. He asked Henry to look after some critical patients. Henry couldn’t refuse."

"I don’t know, but I don’t like it." Lydia shrugged dismissively, a trace of disdain in her voice. "He knows his wife is pregnant. Shouldn’t he give you more time and attention? Instead, he is busy with others while leaving you alone at home."

Lydia deliberately said those provocative words to stir doubt in Lilianna’s heart, designed to create problems in their peaceful life.

"I understand Henry is one of the best doctors in the country," she added, her voice deceptively calm, "but he should think about his own home first, don’t you think?"

Her words struck a chord in Lilianna’s heart. Pregnancy had made her more vulnerable to her emotions, and though she had always reassured herself that Henry’s devotion to his job was part of what she admired about him, the loneliness she felt was undeniable. Lydia’s pointed remarks had ignited a spark of doubt and disappointment that she could no longer suppress.

Lydia noticed the subtle shift in Lilianna’s expression—the faint quiver of her lips, the way her gaze dropped momentarily. A sly satisfaction bloomed within her as she observed her niece’s growing unease. ’You disobeyed me. Now you see, you are suffering,’ she murmured to herself,

But she soon made a worried look, her tone softening in the next words. "Lilianna, you can’t afford to be careless right now. If you’ve been managing everything alone, why didn’t you call me? Come back to the mansion. You shouldn’t be here by yourself. When Henry finishes his work at the hospital, he can take you home. But for now, let me take care of you. I can’t bear to see you like this."

Lilianna blinked back the tears that threatened to fall, forcing a smile onto her face despite the lump in her throat. "Thank you for your concern, Aunt. But I’m fine, really. Henry takes good care of me. His work at the hospital is temporary. Once it’s over, we’ll leave together. Please don’t worry."

"How can I not worry?" Lydia countered. "You and Dylan are like my own children. I insist—come with me. Let me look after you until everything settles down."
