Chapter 111
"Hey Remi," Angela called from behind me. "Cypher’s awake, maybe you want to check on him?"
I glanced back, trying to hide the flash of nerves that Angela’s words sent through me. "Oh, he’s awake already? Did he... Did he remember anything?" I replied, keeping my tone casual. But even as I spoke, my heart picked up pace.
Angela shook her head, "I think so? He asked me what happened to him so I explained to the part where he got lost with us and ended up being tied to that monster. He also wants to say thanks for saving him again."
I sighed in relief, it’s great that he doesn’t remember what happened a while ago or I don’t know how I will react when I face him.
I stood up and let Macaron fly freely, "Okay then after this we should get going," I began walking to where Cypher is but I slowed down when I saw his face coming into view as he looked up, his eyes brightening when he saw me.
The memory of his arms around me resurfaced, making my cheeks warm. I mentally shook myself, trying to keep my expression neutral.
"Glad to see you’re finally awake," I said, aiming for a light tone. "I was starting to think Angela and I would have to carry you out of here."
Cypher chuckled, scratching the back of his head. "I guess I owe you both big time," he said, meeting my gaze with a soft smile.
I gave a small nod, trying to ignore the quick flutter of my heart. "You’d also do the same for me and besides what are friends for, right?"
Cypher’s smile softened, but I thought I saw a flicker of something else in his eyes—something that seemed to fade as quickly as it appeared. "Yeah, friends," he echoed, his voice a bit quieter than usual.
I felt a strange pang in my chest, but I brushed it aside, keeping my tone casual. "Anyway, can you walk? It’s already afternoon and we need to get at the seaside by 6."
