Chapter 490: Underground First Floor
Even though the old man said that the staircases were sealed off, Jiang Cheng still went to check. As the elder claimed, they could walk down the steps, but at the end of it was a metallic door. The door looked sturdy with a massive U-shaped lock. The lock was bound with layers of chains. It felt like they didn’t mean to open this door ever again.
The travellers didn’t look good. This didn’t look like a typical lock. Someone was worried that something inside might come out. Therefore, the old man was probably not lying.
Cao Yang didn’t give up. He wanted to check the other staircase. Jiang Cheng could understand his feelings. After all, taking the elevator was a nightmare for them. The elevator ferried them to this world.
“That won’t be necessary,” Jiang Cheng stopped him. Since the right staircase was sealed, the left one had to be too. There was no point in just sealing off one side.
Jiang Cheng didn’t want to waste time. He came to the elevator. Soon, the elevator that the old man claimed was used to transport bodies arrived. It looked just like before. It was clean and neat. The light was soft and gentle. Everything looked normal. However, for the travellers, the elevator was like a coffin.
If they were trapped inside such a small space, there was no way to run. Plus… Yu Yu’s face paled. She was reminded of Du Feng. Du Feng died in this elevator. When she saw the body, her brain buzzed. Du Feng’s arms were in front of his stomach… cradling his head.
His open eyes kept bleeding. It was harrowing.
A hand landed on her shoulder, causing her to shiver. She looked up and met Jiang Cheng’s eyes. “I’m fine.” Yu Yu was flustered. “I was just… distracted.”
Jiang Cheng nodded wordlessly. They entered the elevator and watched the doors slowly close. The people outside looked at them as if once the doors closed, they would never see the three of them again.
