Chapter 148
- HAZEL -
“Can I ask you something? I don’t want to go into details for my own reasons but can I ask anyway?” I ask Killian, clenching my fingers around a fork on the dining table. He’s started eating, I haven’t touched my meal at all.
“Sure, go ahead. Ask me.” Killian’s voice is soothing as he drops his cutlery and grabs a glass of wine.
“Kate is coming.” I blurt out, keeping my eyes on the table. “Exam is in a few weeks but I don’t want her here before it begins. It’ll be too. . .” I look for the right words, trying to hide my agitation and what I can term as fright in my tone. “Distracting and tasking. I want to focus on just the two of us and exams. At least for now.” I look into his eyes. I don’t wish anyone evil but I can send every single notes and projects taken since Kate’s been absent till now to her, like I’ve always done, but I need her away for my mental health especially with Carol being Asami.
“Consider it done.” Killian says to me. This makes a sharp breath leave my mouth. He didn’t even try to dig deeper or pry. “I have business to take care of out of town anyway. I’ll take care of everything needed to. Just take care of yourself, okay, kitten? And pass your exams for master.” Master? I don’t know when this came along but I like it.
And wait, did he say out of town? “Where are you going?” I ask, keeping my tone low.
“Back where we first met. For business.” My stomach suddenly churns. He’ll be there with Kate. “I’ll only be gone for a week, highest, two weeks but I’ll be here before you can even sense that I’m gone.” I swallow. I wonder why he waited till now to tell me. Of course I’ll notice he’s gone. He’s that significant to me.
“When will you leave?”
“Tomorrow.”
That’s so soon. I don’t want to voice out my disappointment. I wish he could stay longer. For at least two days. We haven’t had time to do anything since. . . You know what, happened. “I’ll set everything ready for you to feel at home here. You’re welcome to live here whenever you want when I’m gone. My servants have strict orders to make you feel safe and not alone.”
My lips form a line and I try to smile. How do I tell him that the reason why this mansion is even considered ‘home’ is because of him? Because he’s here with me. How can home be home when my home isn’t even here? Without him, this is just a big, well furnished building. It’s empty. But being a business man comes with many responsibilities.
