Chapter 8
I nodded. "I should be."
"Can I ask you for a favor?" Kristina looked at me expectantly.
"Kristina, just say it. If I can help, I will."
"Alright, this weekend Lily’s school is organizing an outdoor summer camp, and do you mind pretending to be Lily’s dad? Of course, if you’re uncomfortable, I understand."
I was taken aback. Pretend to be Lily’s dad? That would mean playing the part of Kristina’s husband. While I did harbor feelings for Kristina, the idea of deception didn’t sit well with me. I felt this was something that needed to be discussed with Lily.
I thought Lily would have objected, but to my surprise, she tugged at my arm, pleading, "Uncle William, please, please agree! Oh no, it’s Dad William!"
I couldn’t help but smile. Lily had already started calling me ’dad’. What more could I say?
"Alright, I promise you," I agreed, much to Lily’s delight.
"Do I need to prepare anything?" I asked Kristina.
"You don’t need to bring anything. Just be at my house by seven o’clock on Saturday morning, and we’ll head to the summer camp together!" Kristina replied, her eyes filled with gratitude.
However, there was something else in her gaze - a hint of allure, a reluctance to see me leave. I didn’t want to act too close with Kristina in front of Lily, so I decided to leave.
