Chapter 888 - 017 Smoke disappears and clouds scatter
The doctor and nurse rushed over upon hearing the news and carried out a rescue operation on Vanessa Taylor. It seemed this sort of thing had happened many times before, so when the young man rushed back, he didn’t blame Ellie Wilton. Instead, he comforted her.
"Don’t worry too much," the young man said. "There’s nothing serious, the doctors will do their best. And even if something happens, we can only do our humanly best and leave the rest to fate." He had come to terms with the situation, having received several critical condition notices from the doctor before.
That’s why every time something like this happened, they were always psychologically prepared.
Ellie Wilton didn’t say anything, just numbly nodded. The man thought she was worried, or perhaps feeling guilty, so he didn’t say much more. In fact, at that moment, Ellie Wilton was actually reflecting on the last words Vanessa Taylor had said before.
She said that the arsonist at Fortstar Orphanage was Hannah Browman, that sister she had always respected, who had never once shown her a furrowed brow or jealous eyes, let alone behave like some modern women who, upon learning of their man’s affair, would go as far as to tear the mistress’s clothes off in public.
Therefore, she had always believed Hanna Browman to be a kind person. She had given Marcus Parker four children, and the elderly Mrs. Parker had been quite open-minded. Once she was sure Ellie wouldn’t disrupt her son’s family, she never troubled Ellie again.
So, how could such an educated and sensible woman, favored by Mrs. Parker, commit such an inhumane act? After all, it was an orphanage, filled with children, all of whom were already pitiable. How could she bear to inflict such cruelty?
Thinking and thinking, Ellie Wilton couldn’t help but tremble all over. If that was the case, what kind of people were those around her? Just the thought of it was terrifying.
Vanessa Taylor was her best friend, and aside from her, the one person Anna trusted most. Yet, could such a person, knowing someone was out to harm Anna, do nothing to stop it? To just watch idly as Anna was swallowed by the flames?
How could she do that?
