Daisy Willow took the cup and took a big gulp of water, her stomach growled again. It was over three o’clock, almost four, and she hadn’t even eaten lunch. It was no surprise that she was hungry.
"Haven’t you eaten yet?" The sound was not at all soft, so Carolline Ruiz naturally heard it. What exactly happened to Daisy Willow that she hadn’t even eaten lunch?
"...I’m not hungry." Daisy shook her head, tears falling in strings before she could speak the words caught in her throat. "Carolline, what do I do? Elena’s gone, she’s missing."
"Elena’s missing? What...what does that mean?" Carolline’s eyes widened, finally realizing why Daisy was acting so strangely. Only Elena could make her look like neither human nor ghost.
"Today, I made an appointment with Cole Duncan to take the kids to the zoo for the day. I thought that since we’re going to be leaving the country soon, I don’t know when father and daughter will have a chance to meet in the future, so I wanted them to meet today. But...who would have guessed? When I took Elena to buy ice cream, someone stole my wallet. I thought Elena was safe at the store entrance, so I went to chase the thief. It was a short time, and kind strangers helped, but when I came back... Elena was gone...whimper..."
Daisy choked through her retelling, and by the end, she couldn’t hold back her tears any longer.
"..." Carolline was silent for a moment before responding, "Where was Cole Duncan then? Where was he at the time?"
