Chapter 246: I’m Not Leaving (3)
Looking at the clothes, toys, and books in various pockets, Axel stared with bright eyes, "Dad, are all these for me?"
"Mhm, do you like them, Axel? The trunk was too full, so I put a little in the front." The latter part was Bryan Hawkins’ awkward explanation to Carolline Ruiz.
He mainly didn’t know what to buy, so he bought a bunch based on the store owner’s recommendations. He didn’t know whether Axel would like them or not.
"..." Carolline thought, is this just a little? The front was already like this, she couldn’t imagine what the trunk would look like when opened. Was he trying to make up for the five years of missing fatherly love in one go?
On top of that, he even bought some tear-resistant cloth books. Did he think Axel was under three years old? Axel never tore books when he was little; he was always well-behaved.
Carolline even doubted for a while if Axel knew he was different from other children since birth, only having a mother and no father, so he behaved better to get his father back.
Every time she thought of this, Carolline felt heartache and tears in her eyes. Even with so many people giving Axel so much love, could it not replace fatherly love?
Indeed, as the expert said, the most indispensable thing in a child’s growth is the love of father and mother. Therefore, every time Carolline thought like this, she would be especially resentful towards Bryan Hawkins, but in the end, she would resent herself.
