Chapter 213: Near and Far (3)
Everyone in both families laughed. Since fate decided that they could not be a united family, it didn’t interfere with their friendship. During the meal, Andy’s mom thought of Carolline’s unborn child, who temporarily had no father. She immediately made a statement, "Carolline, when this baby is born, Andy will be its godfather, and your Uncle Andy and I will be the godmother and godfather."
"Oh yes, Henry, you can’t refuse this time," said Garth Aguirre to Henry Ruiz. The waiter just brought some wine, he poured four glasses, put two in front of Henry Ruiz and Emily Hill and the other two were for him and his wife, "Well, let’s drink, to being still officially related, through godparenthood, am I right?"
"Fine, fine, let’s do it your way," Emily Hill agreed. She had once felt quite awkward facing Garth and his wife, but now, hearing what they said, she felt relieved.
Carolline and Andy sat in the middle of the elders, watching the four elders drinking happily. Andy shook his head, cooking for Carolline, "Eat more, don’t worry about them."
"Thank you," said Carolline, accepting the soup. She was really grateful to have such lovely elders by her side, and a brother like Andy.
"What’s there to be thankful for? From being a real uncle to being a godfather, has our relationship gotten closer or drifted apart?" Andy leaned in and asked softly.
Carolline said she always treated him as her brother, knowing that she could no longer make space for him in her heart, he really just acted as her brother, no longer overstepping.
His acceptance and resilience were good, and he also had loving parents who taught him from a young age to be grateful for what you can have, and be understanding of what you cannot get. One shouldn’t get stuck in a dead end, because once you get stuck inside, it’s difficult to get out and you end up hurting yourself and others.
