William Griffith was taken aback, the cigarette between his fingers burning continuously, creating an elongated piece of ash.

After hanging up the phone, William Griffith took a big drag on his cigarette, trying to calm his overwhelming emotions.

William Griffith walked over to the floor-to-ceiling window and pulled down the button, raising the blinds. The bright light pierced into his eyes and his heart. After the initial shock, was there a sense of happiness? A sense of joy for a new life?

William looked up at the dazzling sky and lowered his gaze to his phone. Pressing a button brought up a photo with a pink HELLO KITTY frame. It was a selfie, but only half of it was visible, clearly cropped. The photo showed only the girl’s brilliant smile, her radiant grin, bright and warm like the sun.
The photo had a name saved with it.
