Jiaojiao asked while sizing up the other person.
It should be a little girl, looking about ten years old, with clothes full of patches, gray and dirty, wrinkled like dried plums. She smelled slightly sour up close, and her long, unkempt hair was messily draped over her head and face, making it impossible to tell her features, only barely recognizing her age and gender.
The little girl heard her question and glared at her angrily before turning to look at Ruan Wei, with a bit of blood from a bump topping her forehead, calling him piteously and helplessly, "Brother."

Indeed, in this world, there was more than one person besides Jiaojiao who would call Ruan Wei brother.
Jiaojiao looked at the little girl, evidently arriving at the same conclusion as Ruan Lei. She was not the only sister to call Ruan Wei brother—Liao Zhaoji remarried, and she seemed to remember the child being a little girl.
